•Reduced coater streaks, improved coater run ability and upgraded finished optical properties by evaluating a broad range of coating pigments and additives.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS AND LEADERSHIP INITIATIVES

Product Optimization and Development

•Significantly improved sheet appearance and cleanliness by adjusting wet end cleaner pressure differentials to more closely meet design specifications. Regularly performed audits with hand sheet testing to ensure dirt removal efficiency rates were maximized.

•Utilized a broad range of coating pigments such as calcium carbonate, barium sulfate, plastic pigment, and structured clays to improved coater run ability, coater streaks and finished optical properties. Subsequent evaluations on cost and performance followed.

•Successfully measured the brightness, whiteness and greening response for different optical brighteners (OBAs) and at different addition rates to determine the most cost effective one to be used in lab studies.

•Developed new coating formulations for specialty grades including high bright #3, matte, dull and SCA.

Leadership, Team Building and Quality Assurance

•Increased product yield 7-8% through active participation on a Spool Loss Waste Team effectively reducing waste on every spool at every station.

•Spearheaded ISO 9000 audits of the customer complaint system and the development of a mill corrective action plan.

Special Testing and Chemical Inventory

•Analyzed and evaluated roll structure and winder tension curves through periodic Gap and Schmidt Needle testing to determine in-wound tension variations within each roll.

•Ensured a seamless transition between chemical deliveries for optical brightener, dyes, sulfuric acid and talc in addition to trial chemicals and any other relevant additives.
