TECHNIQUES & SKILLS
HistoPathology & Imaging:
Perform histopathological techniques including patients and animal biopsy/tissue grossing, fixation, processing, paraffin embedding, sectioning as well as frozen tissue preparing and cryotomy. Cytospin and blood smear preparation. H.E. and special stains, Immunocyto/histochemical and Immunofluorescent staining. In situ hybridization. HE and IHC/ Immunofluorescent staining with Leica and Dako Autostainers. Troubleshooting, optimizing histology and immunohistochemistry procedures.
Maintain laboratory equipments as tissue processor, microtome, cryostat and repository of slides; prepare solutions, oversee technical processes and train new user; hazardous materials procedures; implement new methods.
Knowledge of tissue morphology and experience of teaching Histology & Embryology for medical students. Image analysis (e.g., ImageJ, Image Pro Plus) of light and electron microscopy and confocal microscopy. Responsible for keeping data records, primary data analysis, and assisting manuscript preparation, including photo imaging and figure plate editing.
Cell biology & Molecular biology:
Cell culture and primary cell isolation from animal and human tissue. DNA, RNA and protein isolation, PCR and RT-PCR. SDS-PAGE and Western Blotting. Flow Cytometry. BSL3 lab experiences with HIV and VSV-G virus products. TCID50 assay and ELISA.
Monoclonal antibody techniques including immunization of animal, preparation of spleen cell suspension, fusion of myeloma cells with immune spleen cells, cloning of hybridoma cell lines. Establishment of experimental models of transplanted carcinoma in nude mice and animal surgery. Genotyping.
Management:
Order supplies, equipment, and lab maintenance & organization. Monitors quality control of reagents and cleaning procedures and addresses any problems. Keeps abreast of safety procedures and monitors the handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances. Train and oversee other laboratory postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and research staffs and supervise laboratory daily running.
