Ship Self-Defense System (SSDS) at Wallops Island VA

• Furnish list of installation materials to PA • Work issues with equipment manufacturer
Developed engineering designs for integration of new systems at a Land-Based Test Site (LBTS) which is utilized to test software before fielding on actual ships. Wallops Island is the Navy’s premier LBTS for Ship Self Defense Systems (SSDSs) for hardware and software testing because they have some combat systems and every version of every SSDS system presently on Aircraft Carriers, LHA, LHD, and LSD littoral ships. Software testers give the test director their required hardware configuration, and then the Navy’s largest NTDS copper and specialized fiber optic switching system is used to connect the hardware. Technicians load the software versions for each associated hardware system that is on the specific ship that the testers need for their software test. All OPS consoles, displays, sensors, navigation and weapons systems and simulation test beds are connected via switching.
Integrating new or upgraded systems is much more difficult due to the LBTS’s complexity. Determine military software tester’s future equipment requirement, research manufacture’s documents, and all available information sources to derive the functions and interfaces.
Research interface types, pin-outs, cable types, connectors and backshells, and generate cable run sheets. Develop the technical data package which includes cable block diagrams, interface block diagrams, floor plans, support utilities, and cable run sheets. Some new systems do not have shipboard cable run sheets which are used to integrate the hardware to the LBTS environment.
Integrated and installed of the latest version of Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC) system. The CEC provides RF data links between ships within a battle area, merges and correlates target tracks from all sensors on all ships in the area, gives each ship a total picture of battlefield and gives any ship the ability to engage the target with munitions from any ship in the battlefield area. Have provided similar equipment designs for two other major systems.
Use AutoCad 2007 to make all drawings required for interface cabling, floor plan, electrical and mechanical systems. Research and develop material listings, coordinate with corporate purchasing agent for provisioning installation materials. Supervise, mentor and assist technicians as they build cables, pull them in-place, and connect to the switching plant and rack systems.
