CAREER SUMMARY
Extensive laboratory experience. Strengths include: focus to customer applications; process control; test development and data management. Supported sales, marketing, research, development and two production facilities.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
BASF CORPORATION, BEACHWOOD, OH to April 2008
(BASF acquired Engelhard)
Laboratory Manager
Performed tests in a pigment/plastics laboratory and reported the results for plastic and rubber applications.
• Routine: Compounded batches of polymer/pigment in plastics processing equipment. Prepared test panels. Performed comparative evaluations.
• Setup and performed indoor, outdoor and accelerated indoor exposure performance studies on test panels. Obtained and compiled all test data and published results in a report containing spreadsheets and graphics.
• Specific: Published the plastics equipment processing startup and testing procedures for all plastics processes and applications.
• Responsive: Within 20 minutes, any processing equipment could be up to operating temperature to produce valued results. Equipment included: five different type of Mixers, one Twin Screw Extruder, two Single Screw Extruders, two Injection Molding Machines, one Two Roll Mill, two Presses, seven Exposure Devices (Atlas and Q-Panel).
• Purchasing: Purchased raw materials, new equipment and repair parts for processing equipment.
• Maintained: all plastic processing equipment, all test equipment.
• Trouble Shooting/Repairs: Worked with the original manufacturer and the maintenance group to identify equipment problems; order (or repair) and install identified part(s) and be operational within 2 to 5 days.
• Performed multi-variable analytical protocol to identify the root cause of a product’s reduced performance. Compiled hundreds of data points over an 8 week time period and created graphics to reveal trends. Repeated this for five other variables. One of the six variables revealed the hint of an reverse pattern. After discussions, other variables were identified for this possible counter trend. Modified the protocol to include these variables and obtained positive results from one of them within a week. Published all in a formal report.
