Employer: Allied Holdings, Inc., Atlanta, GA

Duration: Mar 1998 – Mar 2004

Job Title: Senior Programmer Analyst

North America’s largest automobile distribution company specializing in car-hauling and logistics with revenue over $900 million. Ford, GM, DaimlerChrysler, Hyundai and Kia are major customers.

Project Title: Billing and Revenue System, Oct 2000 - Jan 2004

• Supported B&R system for over 3.5 years and functioned as single point-of-contact for App Dev, DBAs and Business customers.

• Proactively used DB2 Utilities, ZEKE, SCLM, JCLPLUS, IBM Platinum Tools and multi-LPAR environments for this project to improve the performance of large volume purge jobs.

Accounts Receivable (A/R) Purge Process

• Developed two new processes to perform logical purge and physical purge for fast growing ARDET (Accounts Receivable Deductions Earnings Taxes) database.

• Used DB2 fast unload utilities, such as INZUTILB, to unload ARDET data from DB2 tables into DASDs volumes to speed up the READ process of 40 millions rows. Added FTP procedures to send delimited summary level reports to shared network. Generated a special set of reports for Ford every month.

• Designed batch programs and procedures using COBOL II, SQL, DFSORT utilities to identify eligible rows. Automated these purge jobs in ZEKE to keep minimum amount of data in production database, purging about 10 millions rows each month.

• Used SYSIN control card parameters to change the commit counts and run the process for selected companies within Allied’s group of companies. This improved the response time by 65% to access A/R database.

A/R Benchmark Reports

• Designed and developed a new set of jobs for Age-Trial Balance Reports for Billing and A/R departments.

A/R Monthly Reporting Process

• Formerly took two days for IT and Accounting Department Business Analysts to manually close month-end accounts for Allied group of companies (about 15).

• Redesigned this process by automating report-jobs for every company in Allied’s group. 15 batch jobs are submitted every morning but month-end status switch determines whether it is a dummy run or month-end.

• This enhancement eliminated the work of 6 people during every month-end close and prevented job abends.

• Improved job run time by 18 hours after A/R close.

• Designed a CICS screen to logically close the accounts for that month, which in turn, sets the flags to trigger month-end reporting process.

Approval Posting Process

• Different kinds of bills for same vehicles were being cross-posted, resulting in incorrect reporting of revenue and lots of A/R Adjustments later.

• Accomplished a one-to-one matching between Allied’s bills and shippers’ vouchers and achieved 100% accuracy in approval posting for Chrysler and import accounts.

• Designed CICS screens, using SDF and SQL, to select and deselect bills for deferring retransmission to shippers.

Project Title: Payroll System, Mar 1998 - Sep 2000

• Developed a new system, Brokers Payroll, and supported this and also the existing system regular Payroll System.

• This system pays over 6000 teamster employees (drivers) and 1000 broker employees (owner-drivers).

• Scheduled batch jobs to run and pay in weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly and monthly cycles.

• Used DB2 Utilities, ZEKE, SCLM and JCLPLUS tools during development and in prod environments.

Other important projects are Brokers Payroll System and Drivers Payroll System.

Brokers Payroll System

• Designed and developed new payroll system for Allied and its subsidiaries. Brokers (owner/operators of trucks & trailers) had to be paid with a different pay scale than non-union driver-employees, but there was not a separate payroll system.

• Designed a new system based on existing Payroll System that has 7 stages of jobs and 15 PROCs that are run for 4 different pay cycles.

• Added capability to recognize & access data from different sources like Mile Maker Package (product of Rand McNally), PeopleSoft and DB2 data and also the CICS Data entered by terminal users.

• Designed an improved version of pay earning statement, which is the pay-stub for brokers.

• Automated lots of QMF reports that are printed at Allied’s terminals and payroll departments.

• Designed CICS screens for performing adjustments and corrections to pay-rates.

Drivers Payroll System

• Maintained this payroll system for employed drivers, which is run in multiple pay frequencies.

• Required to do frequent SQL updates when pay-rates, loading methods, routes and vehicle types changed.
