Industrial Paramedic
Treat all medical concerns at an isolated industrial camp in northern Alberta with 700 primarily male employees; closest hospital 90 minutes away. Provide direct preventative & emergency care, referrals to health care facilities, and documentation of medical conditions & procedures, all while ensuring company’s protocols are followed. Communicate with ambulance provider, police, & coroner. Conduct safety exercises; liaison with company safety experts.
Communications Achievements:
• Engaged in group diffusing sessions with pipe gang, who believed that not enough had been done for one of their co-workers during cardiac arrest that resulted in worker’s death.
• Conducted “man down” exercises & debriefings to prepare all departments for various types of medical scenarios to ensure maximum efficiency in handling medical emergencies.
• Developed control room concept to manage all radio communications & movement of staff to ensure initial critical functions are completed in an emergency.
