Major Achievement

Myself was involved in the design and construction activities of following jobs:

a) In our Ammonia plant a major job of converting three-stage shift reaction to two-stage shift reaction was carried out. The job involved welding of 24” NB AS pipe of 37 & 49 MM thick, 18” NB AS pipe of 32 MM thick and 16”NB AS pipe of 28 & 35 MM thk. of A335 Gr.P11, welding of 24” NB lip seal joints, erection of these pipe spools and replacement of crude gas heater E-401. The quantum of job welding was @ 1860 inch dia. and erection of @ 200 Mtrs. having weight of @ 65 MT). Stringent quality checks plan (under inspection of M/s. Linde, AG Germany) was followed involving fit-up, pre-heat, root run radiography, welding, final radiography, stress relieving, Ultrasonic Testing, & Magnetic Particle Inspection with DP checks at random.

b) A modification in Rectisol Wash unit of Ammonia plant involved installation of pump, heat exchanger and equipment with interconnecting SS / LTCS / CS (IBR) piping. Execution was carried with all safety precautions in a highly hazardous area carrying Methanol & hydrogen rich gas. Low temperature lines were routed and interconnected at the tower height up to @ 52 meters with new supports from existing towers. Special design of Knock-Out Drum and optimized piping layout reduced pressure drop across the system to match with low NPSH requirement at pump suction.

c) In our Acetic acid plant, site fabrication & erection of Acetic Acid storage tank of 2700 M^3 capacity (15.25 M dia. x 15.2 M ht.) and interconnecting piping was carried out with IGC testing as per A 262, Practice-A which involved stringent inspection requirements.

Similarly, site fabrication & erection of additional Methanol storage tank of 3000 M^3 capacity (14 M dia. x 21.4 M ht) with floating roof was carried out in hazardous chemicals area which involved stringent safety measures as this addl. tank was erected inside the dyke wall of exiting similar two tanks.

d) An additional ammonia boil-off compressor (capacity 1160 Kg/Hr) was provided in our ammonia plant. This job involved erection of a reciprocating compressor (Two cylinder - double acting) with its drive unit, FLS lubricating system and interconnecting piping.

e) Our Ammonia plant is running at a load of 110-120%. So additional cooling water was required. Hence, an additional cooling tower cell (Double Air - Cross Flow – Induced Draft) was erected and commissioned having a capacity of 3000 M^3/ Hr.

f) I was involved in the execution work of AC system (Centrally Water Cooled) having a capacity of 400TR with centrifugal chiller of 2 x 200 TR each at our Info tower, Ahmedabad.

Previous job:

Engineer cum Supervisor From Jan. 1993 – To June 1993
