Education
BA in ACS Certified Chemistry from Connecticut College, 2010.
. 2009 Keck Grant Recipient
. Courses included advanced organic and inorganic chemistry,
instrumental methods, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, physical
chemistry, medicinal chemistry and others. Twelve classes included a
laboratory section. Covered HPLC and GC methods.
. Computer Science courses in data structures, computer organization,
programming languages and computer networks. My coursework lacked a
math course for the CS minor.
Research Experience
Funded summer internship under the Keck Grant and two additional semesters
of undergraduate research with Professor Stanton Ching (May 2009 - May
2010).
. Prepared and analyzed manganese oxides to develop higher surface-area
materials for a variety of applications. Focused on doping these
products with different amounts of iron, nickel or zinc without
compromizing thier nanoscale morphologies.
. Experienced in analytical techniques including: atomic absorption
spectroscopy(AA), UV/Vis and infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, x-ray
diffraction analysis (XRD), thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA),
scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM).
. Used the glove box and Schlenk line to manipulate air-sensitive
compounds.
. Required intensive book-keeping (on paper and in information systems)
writing full reports, poster-making and team presentations.
Northwest Atlantic Cruise aboard Atlantis out of Woods Hole, Massachusetts
(September 10, 2010 - October 5, 2010)
. Went to sea for five weeks to collect over 700 water samples for the
study of total organic carbon, dissolved organic carbon and nutrient
trends across three transects of the continental shelf.
. Helped install three on-board laboratories and assisted in parallel
projects involving CTD (Conductivity/Temperature/Depth) casting,
bottom core sectioning, underwater pump set-up, radioactive heavy-
metal analysis and total inorganic carbon analysis.
