PROJECTS:

Black Belt Project: Reduction of adjustment claims and overall improvement of process using DMAIC tools of Six Sigma at Blue Cross Blue Shields, Buffalo. (Six Sigma Intern Sep 2011 – May 2012)

• Blue Cross Blue Shields (BCBS) had high number of adjustment claims. This increases their overall expenditure cost as company has to pay additional cost and also affects company image in a highly competitive market.

• The main objective was to find root causes for the adjustment claims across various departments involved for the claims and reduce the numbers by around 30-40% by using various tools of Six Sigma.

• Worked with cross functional teams to define the entire process and find out root causes for claims adjustment.

• Various improvement were suggested including corrective action plan for increasing efficiency of the system

• The total amount of saving is estimated approximately more than $ 100000.

• Conducting Time-study for various processes.

Six Sigma: “Reduction of Defect rate in Bolts for Water pump at General Motors, Tonawanda plant”- Sep 2010 -Jan 2011

• Six Sigma quality project to reduce defects at Water-pump rundown station, improvise labor cost and reducing overall defect rates.

• In the project, numbers of rejects were high to a bolt failure which would lead to rework for the engine block

• Analyzed the process to find the KPIV’s and KPOV’s in order to quantify the process.

• DMAIC process including brainstorming and other tools were used to find root cause of the failure

• Perform process capability studies, gage repeatability & reproducible studies and statistical analysis including design of experiments for assembly line were done for the system.

• Recommendations were implemented to reduce the defect rates and improve the overall efficiency of the system.

Quality Assurance: Improvement of popcorn popping efficiency using Quality tools. Spring 2011

• Improved the characteristics of popping the popcorn considering various factors in consideration.

• Using Gage R&R, ANOVA, Fractional factorial design, RSM and SPC the optimal settings were proposed. Minitab was used in this project.

Production Planning and Control: “Forecast and aggregate planning for Pistachio Restaurant”

• In this project, forecasting and aggregate planning was done using various tools to predict a demand nature for the restaurant.

• Initially the restaurant didn’t have any forecasting procedure and they used to stock items to fulfill variation in demand, however this would increase their inventory cost and also overhead cost.

• The team was able to identify peak periods by going through previous data and used forecasting to predict the demand using Winter’s methods.

• Aggregate planning was used to minimize their operational cost so that they can vary their workforce labor as per the demand without affecting the quality and standard of the restaurant.

• Tools like Winter’s method, Decomposition method and LP solver were used.

Bachelors of Engineering project: Design and modification of Engine Block of WDM2 Engine at Railway Workshop, Mumbai- August 2006- June 2007

• Worked as a Student intern for final year project at Diesel Engine Railway workshop for Design and Modification of Engine Block.

• Studied and worked on shop floor to learn various parts of an Engine block and suggested methods to increase efficiency of engine block.

ACTIVITIES:-

• Research Assistant, CEDAR (Center of Excellence for Document Analysis and Recognition), University at Buffalo.
