EXPERIENCE
Litigation, Generally: Extensive experience in all phases of civil litigation in State and Federal Courts; conducting numerous jury and non-jury trials in a variety of cases. Also, notable experience in appellate work having argued numerous cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the Nevada Supreme Court and the Utah
Supreme Court. Achieved favorable resolution of complex, difficult-to-win cases through meticulous work and assiduous application. Provided criminal defense for indigents in Utah and Nevada.
Employment, Labor, Discrimination and Civil Rights: During the last seventeen years, the vast majority of practice has been in the areas of labor law, Title VII, ADA, ADEA, other discrimination and harassment cases, wrongful termination, FLSA and civil rights cases. Counsel for and former counsel for several public employee unions and private sector employee union.
Arbitration: I have been a member of the panel of Arbitrators in the Eighth Judicial District Court, District of Nevada since shortly after the inception of the mandatory arbitration program in 1992. Several years of experience in numerous labor arbitration disputes, both as disciplinary matters and contract interpretation. Also serve as Arbitrator and Mediator for the Nevada State Bar for client/attorney fee disputes. Recently appointed as Judge Pro Tempore for the Eighth Judicial District Court of Clark County, Nevada.
Contract, Tort, Insurance and Commercial Litigation: One of the counsel in a particularly large and multidistrict antitrust case, as well as a number of other antitrust cases. Substantial experience in collective bargaining and other contract matters. Engagement in insurance-related litigation, including bad faith actions, ERISA actions, securities litigation and insurance defense. Notable experience in commercial tort and personal injury litigation.
Bankruptcy and Real Property Litigation: Extensive experience in Chapter 11 business reorganization cases, having represented both debtors and creditors in numerous cases and litigated numerous adversary proceedings. Have been the main bankruptcy attorney for a law firm. Argued In Re Madrid and another bankruptcy cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Have represented large lessors of commercial leases and financial institutions in real property disputes. Over twenty years experience in bankruptcy cases including Chapter 7, 11 and 13. Named Bankruptcy Law Firm of the Year in 1999 by the Nevada Consumer Business Review. Inverse condemnation case.
Family Law: Over thirty years experience in both the Utah and Nevada State Courts in a full array of legal issues including divorce, custody, support, visitation, guardianship, adoption, termination of parental rights and all QDROs’. I am a member of the Family Law Section of the Nevada State Bar.
