For two and a half years my wife and I were dorm parents at a children’s home. This was a twenty-four hour care facility, where we not only worked, but also resided. During our time we were the primary care givers for a dorm of boys and then girls. The number of children in our care ranged from one to eight plus our own daughter. One requirement of Dorm Fathers was also the maintenance of the grounds and facility, which was an almost one hundred year old building.
