Worked at Washington Mutual as a Senior DBA and Team Lead independently supporting multiple Production Databases ranging from a few Gigabytes upto 2 Terabytes located across various WaMu data centers in the US. Supported 500+ Oracle & SQL Server databases within a team of 14 DBAs. Handled Database Administration, Backup and Recovery & Performance Tuning activities. Successfully lead the transition of database support from the earlier vendor viz. IBM Global Services. The number of database outages since then considerably reduced due to implementation of proactive measures and better management and maintenance of the database systems. Much stricter monitoring of the databases was implemented with standardized scripts and Foglight monitoring across all databases The backup strategy was completely revisited to provide adequate backups as per the individual requirements of the various application teams. Capacity planning initiative was started to minimize sudden shortage of space. Change Control policies and procedures were strictly followed while implementing any change to the production environments. Remedy Ticketing (TIMS) and Change Management tool was used to handle and manage tickets and change requests. Tools such as Quest Central 5.0, Oracle Enterprise Manager, ERWIN were extensively used.
