Professional Experience
Process Management Intern Oct 2011 – May 2012
Gastronics Inc, Cleveland
Member of Lean Manufacturing (LM) team of 3 for identifying potential opportunities and scope for reducing lead time applying process control principles.
Coordinated to produce extensive requirement and design documentation for components of True wireless XP gas detectors, True wireless VHF/UHF and True wireless GPS/GPRS. Provided vital inputs for electrical schematic capture and printed circuit board (PCB) layout during new product development. Controlled the flow, conductivity and pH per industrial requirements using Rug3. Performed instrumentation calibration of Rev C boards, soldering sensors, loop checks, communication testing of radio, functional testing and managed final product verification before release. Currently in charge of Solid engineering development team of 4 to ensure reliability of safety critical products against field issues and potential failure modes. Applied tools including 5S, 5Y and 8D for process improvement. Optimized ISO 9001 processes and developed documentation for PCB and sensors for Industry standard certification. Analyzed gas reading, 0.0 – 2.0 auxiliary analog input reading, temp and relay/alarm inputs. Engaged in discussions with management team on how to link opportunity, concepts, a business model and strategy to improve operational efficiency.
Engineering Trainee – Siemens PLC Control May 2007 – Aug 2007
Megatech Solutions, India
Successfully completed ladder logic training program with PLC control team to develop robust, easy to run, easy to debug, and easy to maintain systems.
Member of Siemens PLC programming team of five to control loop diagnostics and process optimization. Presented findings to stakeholders and assisted in tune up of PLC to lower long-run cost.
Assisted team in maintenance, process simulation and tuning of PLC to generate a delivery performance model with cost savings of 3% and higher quality.
Academic Projects
Analysis of CSTR Temperature Control with Adaptive and Feedback – Feedforward Control Aug 2011 – Dec 2011
Researched and analyzed the design of a nonlinear feedback controller and adaptive controller for temperature control of continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTRs) that has strong nonlinearities.
Assessed process for relevance and adequacy of engineering information to develop a mathematical model for CSTR.
Coordinated closely with specialists including scientists in forums / community to design a new process algorithm feedback - feedforward for temperature control of CSTR and completed the process control system design.
Ensured all aspects of implementation was covered to meet specified regulations and successfully led to meet right rate and quality of output. Simulated designed models and tuned all control loops.
Assumed responsibility for risk assessment, including hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies to monitor safety.
Settling time in feedforward + feedback was 50 seconds compared to 60 seconds for adaptive control and also resulted in 50% fewer oscillations. The peak over shoot was reduced by 3%.
