DIRECT

Description: DIRECT is an access and core network planning tool, providing traffic dimensioning

for 2g, 2.5g and 3g mobile networks. In addition to the transmission element, DIRECT supports

capacity planning in the core network. The switching modules support the fixed switching network element of the traffic dimensioning and topology.

DIRECT's modular design enables you to model all of the cellular traffic through ATM/IP networks

and onto SDH/PDH transmission systems in order to provide the overall capacity requirement for the transmission and core networks.

For providing a more convenient and user friendly environment, the modules have been categorised in three layers

The Traffic layer which generates the traffic input for the service layers below. Initially the traffic layer contains the modules for Cellular, PSTN, Interswitch and Signalling.

The Service/Transport layer which accepts traffic from the upper layer and distributes it across the various networks. The service layers contain such modules as the SDH, PDH, ATM, IP and LightPath.

The Transmission layer shows the physical connectivity and detailed port connectivity of the network structure.
