Project Engineer/GIS Analyst

• Lead project engineer for the New York City Waterfront Mapping and Management System Asset Program. Responsibilities include gathering field data; planning all field activities for land- and water-based surveying/mapping crews; and post-processing of data. Sample projects involve mapping, inspecting, and assigning ratings to waterfront structures in New York Harbor.

• Perform above and underwater inspections of waterfront structures at sites in California, Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Member of dive team as both diver and tender. Inspections involve assigning ratings to timber, concrete, and steel structures for subsequent repair and maintenance.

• Lead project engineer for the FEMA Flood Map Revision Program, Region I. Prepare hydrologic and hydraulic data for coastal floodplain analysis along shoreline of New England. Create digital flood maps as part of preliminary mapping phase of NFIP. Analysis includes classifying physical traits of coastline, running numerical models to determine coastal flooding and erosion conditions, and developing GIS geodatabases to manage spatial data.

• Prepare and submit Letter of Map Change applications to FEMA for private clients as part of NFIP. Gather tide and wave data for analysis using CHAMP model to determine coastal flooding and erosion conditions.

• Analyze infrared aerial imagery to determine density of vegetation and infrastructure along coastline for subsequent numerical modeling. Sample projects involve wetlands restoration and coastal floodplain delineation.

• Lead project engineer for Jamaica Bay, NY Wetlands Restoration project. Perform geotechnical and wave climate analysis. Design floating breakwater system to reduce wave energy and increase sediment accretion in salt and freshwater wetlands.

• Perform design and analysis for multiple beach protection and restoration projects in New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut. Analysis includes design waves, armor unit sizing, and overtopping analysis for groins, beach fills, seawalls, and bulkheads.

• Prepare and submit local, state, and federal permit application materials for various coastal zone projects. Projects include dredging, structural repairs, and site remediation at public and private sites in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

• Calculate dredge cross-sections and volumes for projects in New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. Determine side-slope stability. Develop and submit sediment sampling and analysis plans to regulatory agencies. Supervise hydrographic surveys at various sites in New York Harbor.

• Prepare drawings, proposals, cost estimates, and technical specifications for various waterfront projects.
