OBJECTIVE: Seeking a challenging, fast-paced clinical fellow position as a speech-language pathologist in a dynamic medical setting.
CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
Graduate Student, University of Louisville Hospital, Acute Inpatient Care, Louisville, KY 1/2012-present
• Actively participate in FEES and MBS studies. Developed proficiency and confidence with examination of studies and application of findings regarding patients’ swallow function and diet. Design diet recommendations, compensatory strategies, therapeutic activities, educate patients and their families regarding recommendations, and complete extensive reports for both. Complete bedside evaluations of swallowing to assess readiness for clinical swallowing evaluations, as well as to determine increased coordination, strength, range of motion, and palpable laryngeal elevation for potential diet upgrades. Currently pursuing FEES training at Boston Medical Center with Dr. S. Langmore in July 2012.
• Worked primarily with patients with brain injuries, strokes, trauma, head and neck cancer, and other incidents causing impairment to cognition, swallowing, speech, and language. Became very comfortable serving and communicating with patients with severely impaired cognition, including Ranchos los Amigos levels I-V. Also comfortable serving individuals with Guillan-Barre, brain tumor resections, respiratory failure, alcohol withdrawal, dementia, HIV/AIDS, mental health diagnoses, burn survivors, genetic syndromes, and motor speech disorder such as Parkinson’s disease.
• Participated in VitalStim therapeutic treatment for pediatric and adult patients with dysphagia.
• Carried out coma stimulation techniques for individuals in Ranchos los Amigos levels I-III.
• Assessed readiness of patients for Passy-Muir valve use, including consideration of respiratory status and oxygen saturation levels, length of intubation and extubation, type/size of tracheostomy, and results of digital occlusion. Educated patients and family regarding use and safety precautions of PMV use, as well as benefits of speaking valve use for achieving functional oropharyngeal pressure and sensation for swallow.
• Independently conducted evaluations of cognition, speech, language, pragmatics, and voice including but not limited to informal and formal patient examination, medical chart reviews, and collaboration with nursing staff and physicians. • Participated in tracheoesophageal prosthesis replacement, sizing, and education, in addition to education regarding other alternative voicing methods for pre- and post-laryngectomy patients.

• Perform primary level evaluations by assessing children in five areas of development, including cognition, adaptive, social, communication, and motor skills. Utilize the Battelle Developmental Inventory-2 and Assessment, Evaluation, and Programming System for Infants and Children, 2nd Edition (AEPS).
• Co-led therapy sessions for children from ages 0-5 incorporating AAC devices, fluency shaping, articulation strategies, therapy for expressive and receptive language, developmental apraxia, autism, and social skill stimulation. Worked with children with cerebral palsy, genetic disorders, and sensory integration disorders, as well as children on the autism spectrum.

• Served patients with CVA, aneurysm, TBI, brain tumor resections, as well as other acquired brain injuries. Independently performed evaluation and treatment of cognition, language, speech, voice, communication, and swallow.
• Performed VFSS/MBSS, bedside clinical evaluations, dysphagia therapy, basic and high level cognitive evaluations, and cognitive therapy including by not limited to addressing attention, memory, orientation, reasoning, problem solving, medicine management, and bill paying.
