In addition to providing outpatient psychotherapy to individual, couples, families and groups in a private practice setting, New Vision Counseling also provides consulting and training services in a variety of mental health, and community settings. Private, not-for-profit and governmental entities including Wooden and Associates, Key Essentials, Flint Police Department, University of Michigan, and Hurley Mental Health are examples of organizations that have utilized our services.
Examples of services, past and present, provided by New Vision Counseling would include:
Supervised case managers, social workers, and oversaw the daily implementation of a Juvenile Intervention management program.
Developed and implemented the initial screening process for eligibility for Flint Police Juvenile Intervention Program, and the University of Michigan, Fathers, and Sons program. Performed diagnostic evaluations, utilizing the DSM-IV-TR, for all potential clients.
Facilitated weekly supervision for a social work and case management staff of 12, insuring compliance with agency, Michigan and federal government regulations and performance standards.
Provided 24 hour on-call access and crisis intervention for clients coping with diagnosis of HIV/AIDS, mental illness, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.
Provided outpatient weekly therapy for individual, couples, group and family on short/long term basis with a theoretical basis in Cognitive Therapy, Reality Therapy and System Theory.
Provided employment assistance programs for various organizations for Hurley Mental Health.
Provided counseling, referral and advocacy for victims of domestic violence and domestic abuse.
Accomplishments: Developed and implemented a Conflict Resolution Program with juvenile offenders; provided on-going training to security and police staff regarding the recognition of mental illness and suicide prevention; conducted HIPAA 101 Training (2002). Provides leadership as well as operational management of The Center for Health and Rehabilitation (CHR) programs and personnel;
Defines strategies, established goals and set priorities for the completion of projects, tasks and activities for the CHR associated with the inherent Fulton County, Department of MH/DD/AD;
Provides leadership for all CHR program activities involving a wide range of professional and programs related to behavioral health involving psychiatry, psychology, clinical social work, psychiatric nursing and public health and functions as part of a multi-disciplinary team to effect accomplishment of departmental goals;
Functions in a high profile position within the Department of MH/DD/AD and is an important liaison and expert consultant to the various collaborative program leadership on all aspects of behavioral health, substance abuse, including promotion, treatment, service and program development, policy budget, regulations and involves interagency, intertribal and interdepartmental liaison;
Consults with IT on the evaluation methods for the analysis of outcomes of programs; policies and services targeting behavioral health, substance abuse and behavioral health-related programs and services.
Oversees CHR budget formulation and fiduciary functions; Responsible for administering a budget over 1.6 million dollars.
Develops work plans and performance evaluation criteria for all members of the staff, evaluates employee performance, interviews and recommends candidates for positions within the program, recommends promotions or reassignments, hears and resolves complaints, effects disciplinary measures as needed, approves leave, advises employees on work and administrative matters, and advises employees on career development plans and training;
Provides advocacy internal and external to Fulton County, including Department of Human Resources Services operating divisions and staff divisions, other Counties, State, Local, and Federal departments and to the Board of Commissioners, including Authorizing and Appropriations Committees.
Project Manager for SAMHSA Excel Grant – Provided treatment to homeless males that suffered from mental health, substance abuse, and co-occurring disorders.
Accomplishments: The reorganization of the Addictive Disease Division and Implementation of the Matrix Model of Treatment; and reorganized Treatment methods, by incorporating Early recovery, Relapse prevention, Employment education, education of co-occurring disorders, and substance abuse education to all participants; Implementation of Men’s American Society of Addictive Medicine 2.5 Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program; Development and Implementation of a Family Educational Series, that also provided Continuing Education Units for professionals; Implementation of a evening substance abuse treatment program for individuals that work or that are going to school.
