This action reduced expenses associated with counting inventory, and increased gross margins on in store merchandise from 27.5% to 30.0% by reducing shrinkage.
• Developed a bonus program to reward store managers based on performance. This resulted in more focused managers with a low turnover rate and greater attention to store profitability.
• Created a financial accounting structure.
• Once financial data began to be analyzed on a monthly basis the profitability of the company grew dramatically when expenses and revenues could be separately identified. Profitability was break even in 1991 and close to $500,000 annually in 1996.
