The University of Iowa’s Power Plant primary function is to convert fuel energy into thermal and electric energy for use on the University of Iowa campus and The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The

Power Plant is a combined heat and power plant facility that generates about one-third of the University’s electric power needs.

As the University’s Power Plant Project Assistant, my responsibilities include:

1.Implement a forecast/tracking system to analyze work completions and improve efficiencies. The system allows us to review trends and make improvements in the process which has resulted in a reduction of plant costs and manpower downtime.

2.Interact daily with plant personnel discussing current work flow and continuous improvement options. I also roll up my sleeves and give a hand when needed. This has built a relationship of trust and respect resulting in open communications and a teamwork attitude.

3.Utilizing Project Manager Microsoft, I coordinate and schedule power plant outages reducing down time and saving money.

4.Forecast and prioritize workloads for all operation, electrical shop and maintenance techs resulting in efficient use of skill sets and reduced labor costs.

West Central Coop, Ralston, IA February 2010 - April 2010

West Central is a leading grain, agronomy, and value-added processing entity. It operates a licensed public grain warehouse, provides grain marketing services; supplies feed, fertilizer, chemicals, and other merchandise; and manufactures and markets dairy nutrition products. West Central is one of the 20 largest grain companies in North America.

As Operations Superintendent at West Central, my responsibilities included:

1.Agronomy, Elevator and Plant operations at four (4) facilities storing over eight (8) million bushels of corn and beans.

2.Oversaw incoming and outgoing anhydrous and dry fertilizer operations.

3.Inventory control of all warehoused supplies for a 40,000 bushel bean production that processed food grade oil.

4.Performance management/personal development of all operational employees.

Archer Daniels Midland Corn Processing, Cedar Rapids, IA

December 2006 to August 2009

Archer Daniels Midland Company is one of the largest agricultural processors in the world. Serving as a vital link between farmers and consumers, they take crops and process them to make food ingredients, animal feed ingredients, renewable fuels and naturally derived alternatives to industrial chemicals.

As Maintenance Manager at ADM, my responsibilities included:

1.Organize a team to develop goals addressing various obstacles perceived as causing inefficient operations. This resulted in improvements in key areas to measure efficiencies and trends.

2.Develop and facilitate a comprehensive training program to improve maintenance technician skill and knowledge resulting in increased efficiency of completed jobs.

3.Analyze workload to determine manpower which resulted in a reduction of labor costs by $160K per year.

4.Evaluate and implement the use of used oils as a heat source thereby reducing energy costs by over one hundred thousand dollars.

5.Team with plant leaders to cultivate positive change resulting in increased morale.

6.Chairman of the Rules and Procedures Safety Committee.

Genencor International, Cedar Rapids, IA April 2000 to August 2006

A Danisco Division, Genencor is one of the largest developers and manufacturers of industrial enzymes and one of the largest biotechnology companies in the world. Genencor discovers, develops, manufactures, and delivers eco-friendly, efficient enzyme product solutions. They also develop innovative advancements for the biofuels, biodefense, and biosafety industries.

As Capital Design/Maintenance Lead at Genenco, my responsibilities included:

1.Leading a cross-functional team in a $35M expansion which increased facility status to food grade standards.

2.Research existing PLC programs and trouble shoot service areas resulting in no service interruptions and a more reliable process.

3.Program VFD motor controls to operate in conjunction with the existing PLC.

4.Design and install new food grade tanks increasing client base and sales.

5.As member of the Maintenance Safety Committee, I performed all safety inspections inside pressure vessels and tanks.
