Resume:

Martin van der Straaten

Since ****, I have been employed as a lead mechanical engineer at the waste-disposal and power plant, ARN BV. In this position, I am responsible for the operational management of the waste-recycling and waste-incineration installations. In addition, I am responsible for the power generation systems (25 MW electrical plus 26 MW thermal).

My job responsibilities consist of:

• Safe start-up and shut-down of installations (oven/boiler and turbine/generator) for maintenance, during breakdowns and in case of emergencies.

• Monitoring exhaust emissions and adjusting process control accordingly.

• Close consultations with electric companies and an adjacent waste water purification plant over the delivery of electricity and heat (production planning).

• Advising the Province of Gelderland about deviations from normal operations and alerting them to potential risks and hazards during special occurrences.

• Responsibility (in a six shift system) for all operating systems of incinerators, electricity generation and flue gas scrubbing. Returning the operational system to full capacity in an expedient and safe manner.

• Monitoring of emergency and safety systems and ensuring their safe operation.

• Managing all operators, crane drivers and maintenance crew.

• Responsibility for the planning and scheduling of all shift staff and hired employees and monitoring paid hours.

• Monitoring the entry of all employees and visitors to the premises.

I am a real “techie”. I love my work and like the challenge of solving complex technical problems, but I like preventing problems even more. I like to move around in the installation in order to discover issues before they become problems. I cooperate well with fellow employees and I operate well in a solo position also. I’m reliable, loyal and honest. I have been working in a shift capacity for the last 18 years and have been quite accustomed to it and actually enjoy it.

What are my qualifications?

Education:

Started out as Marine Engineer B.

Then follow-up/switch study Mechanical Engineer in Power Stations C.

Additional education:

Flue gas scrubbing in waste-incineration installations

SCC for managers

In-house Emergency Officer

Advanced Excel

VBA (Visual Basic for Applications).

Languages:

Dutch, English and German

Basic knowledge of Spanish, French and Korean.

I am currently searching for a new position that offers me opportunity for growth and provides me with new challenges. The waste incineration technology is very interesting, but after all the years that I have been working at ARN BV I am ready to use my talents in a new and innovative way, waste incineration has no secrets for me anymore.

Technology is my passion and making preventative rounds and “discovering” and fixing problems before they develop into real problems, is one of my strong points. Starting up the installation and managing breakdowns, is interesting as well because it continuously asks for new solutions. This happens less often in my current position however, because things have been brought under control by now.

A few years ago, I became involved with an American woman and we share a great affinity for travelling and living abroad. We love seeing the world and meeting and getting to know people. This means I am actively looking for a way to combine my passion for travel with my technical skills and experience.

I am flexible and would enjoy working on foreign projects. Depending on the duration of the project I could potentially combine it with working 6 to 8 months at my current position. I would also be very interested at sailing again for a few months a year.
