Objectives: Manufacturing Supervisor or Senior Manufacturing Engineer. I have over 30 years experience in manufacturing, beginning as a Manufacturing Supervisor, 21 of those years were at Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Company. I have performed both positions simultaneously at times due to operating capital limitations.

Profile

I am an expert-level hands-on highly technical Manufacturing professional and Senior Manufacturing Engineer with over 30 years to offer in the fields of sheet metal stamping and drawing, industrial painting, Forging, MIG welding, Spot Welding, assembly, Injection and compression molding (plastics and composites). My experience also includes Manufacturing and Project management of new product/process from the development stage through installation through start-up. I have worked in an ISO approved process environment. I conduct FMEA’s. I direct and use PPAP approval techniques for new tooling and equipment runoffs. I have also used 6 sigma techniques. I have a proven successful track record for developing, deploying, and managing projects from concept through start-up with objectives centered on employee training, quality and cost reduction. I am also proficient at keeping my employees focused and on track from techniques developed years ago while serving as an engineer on nuclear submarines. We would remain submerged continuously for two 90 day periods of time per year.

1988-2009: Harley-Davidson: Senior Manufacturing Engineer/Project Manager and Supervisor for sheet metal fabrication, and welding. Also stampings, drawing, paint applications and processing, pre-treatment, E coat and chrome plating systems.(Includes metal-prep and iron/zinc phosphating). (Offered an early company paid retirement package in 2009 after 21 years due to economic downturn).

Revised and created all current (1988-2009) internal polish, paint, pretreatment and plating systems processes and controls as well as Quality standards.

Estimate all manufacturing costs for ne parts and processes as well as manpower requirements.

Created process documentation and perform training for all part processing beginning with raw materials (steels, plastics and composite materials) through draw and blanking.

Presses, or molding operations through laser trimming finally paint and or plating processes. ISO certified, must meet ISO standards.

New product and part introduction. Softail motorcycle line and frame redesign for automation. Managed tooling and process changes from manual to Robotic welding. Implemented ABB crating lines. Responsibilities included controlling all capital and expense dollars for the project.

1985-1988 General Defense Corporation. Process Engineering Products Produced; Forging and CNC machining of kinetic energy projectiles, Tracer Rounds, rocket motor bodies, timers, fuses, rocket motor bodies, mortars and various classified/unclassified weapons systems and controls. Lead Engineer for finishing pretreatment; Phosphate; Zinc Anodizing and paint applications. My combined departments consisted of approx. 50 salaried and hourly people.

1984-1985: AMP Inc. Industrial Engineer, Harrisburg, Pa.

Worked in development of communications cabling and harness systems and connectors. Stampings and electrical connector components used in automotive, aerospace, and military applications. Zinc and copper continuous plating. Knowledgeable on Mil-Q 9858 and other military specifications and test procedures.

1981-1984; Cuttler Hammer Controls. Sr. Product Engineer (Eaton Corp.) Bowling Green, Kentucky. Responsible for the design, fabrication, and construction of new custom electronic enclosures and control panels complete to customer expectations. I was also responsible for the implementation and testing design changes for relays, contactors, motor protectors, pressure switches, citation starter coils and compression molding processes for relay housings. Did carbide tooling designs for E-frames and I- frame on high speed Bruderer high speed stamping presses. I moved several of our manufacturing lines from the US to Mexico.

1977-1981 Production Supervisor, Texas Instruments Inc. Attleborough, Mass. I was responsible for the manufacture of appliance and AC motor relays and thermal overloads. I directed the activities of an average of 75 + assemblers, testers and lead people. These responsibilities included complete P&L accountability for my cost centers, meeting production goals also, forecasting quarterly/annual budgets and manpower requirements. My duties included performance appraisals for all my people. (Non union site) Basically all hiring, team building, planning, discipline (as needed), and all related documentation for my individual profit center.

1970-1976, served aboard Nuclear Submarines as an NCO Technical Engineer Studied Nuclear engineering and propulsion engineering in the military.

I served as a technical engineer aboard Nuclear Submarines (USN-NCO): USS Bluefish SSN 675, USS Nautilus SSN 571 and USS Benjamin Franklin SSBN 640 Gold crew. I also qualified for my Dolphins on my first Patrol in less than 90 days and received a commendation from the Sub Squadron 16 command for breaking all engineering qualification records. This usually took a year or better to accomplish. I received an honorable citation for my efforts.
