Graduate Term Projects
1)“Network Loss Coefficient with Distributed Generation”.
(MTU)- Fall 2010
- Analyzed the impact of various types of distributed generation on power loss profiles of test system in different scenarios of penetration and dispersion level of DG into power system along with different power factors.
- Obtained result showing typical U-shape curve of losses with increase in penetration and dispersion
Level of distributed generation and verified mathematically using loss coefficient matrix method
- Studied the impact of distributed generation on power system losses.
- Used Aspen and MATLAB for simulation of typical distribution system as a test system
2)“Effects of Distributed Generation on Distribution Protection” -- (MTU)- Spring 2011
- Analyzed the impact of distributed generation on protection schemes of existing power grid.
- focused on Mis-coordination of distance relays like under-reaching, over-reaching due to inclusion of Distributed Generation, Loss of sensitivity due to inclusion of DG, Sympathetic Tripping.
- Used Aspen for simulation over the model of distribution system
3) Senior Year Project: University of Pune (Sponsored by – Crompton Greaves ltd.)
Title: “Elimination of operational inconsistency of micro-switch in 11 kV Vacuum Circuit breaker by Six-Sigma Methodology”
- Led a team of 3 members to successfully complete the project in the given time frame
- Reduced the operational inconsistency of micro-switch from 900000 PPM to <5000 PPM using Six-Sigma Methodology. Modified the old micro-switch resulting in better performance and final recommendation was provided to Crompton Greaves Ltd. Design department for implementation into the system and proposal was accepted.
