Senior Consultant
Provided consulting expertise through financial modeling, industry and company research, and audit support.
• Participated in the analysis of bankruptcy claims involving defaults on home mortgages provided by a leading home loan lender. Work on this matter included review and analysis of proofs of claim, mortgage contracts, lender invoices, and trustee ledgers. The analysis on more than 200 loan agreements included evaluating extensive amounts of data including interest rates, principal amounts, and payment histories, among others.
• Assisted counsel and testifying expert for a domestic energy company related to the spin-off of its non-regulated operations. Former subsidiary alleged that the former parent inappropriately transferred assets and fraudulently reported earnings, causing the subsidiary’s bankruptcy. Work on this matter included the review of internal and external accounting work-papers and public filings to determine the appropriateness of accounting restatements, the effectiveness of internal controls, and appropriate dividend allocation. Assisted in the preparation of portions of the expert report and advised attorneys and expert on numerous issues. Aided in the evaluation of opposing experts’ reports by performing a valuation analysis of previously purchased entities.
• Participated in the defense of numerous former high-level executives of a major medical software provider accused of various fraudulent activities including stock option backdating and inappropriate accounting practices. Work on this matter included analyses of relevant documents related to various business combinations and alleged fraudulent activities, resulting in written reports presented to clients.
• Assisted a large, global developer / manager of assisted living communities with their accounting restatement and compliance with SEC filing requirements. Worked with a team in conducting a “post-audit” of 50+ judgmental accrual / reserve accounts that were identified by the client and their external auditor.
• Developed a financial model to assist an automotive supplier in better understanding why certain contracts were lost or won and how to better allocate costs in order to make successful bids on future projects. Work on this matter included company and industry specific research and review of public and private documentation.
• Worked on multiple employee stock option (“ESO”) investigations in response to internal and regulatory inquiries into the accounting for ESO’s by certain US publicly traded companies. The engagements included allegations of spring-loading, backdating and improper accounting practices. Work on these matters included evaluation of public and private documentation in order to determine what fraud, if any, existed, and for what amount.
Non-Client Related Activities
• Communication Task Force, Level Representative
One of three representatives from the consultant level who met with three representatives from the other five levels within our office to discuss issues and concerns regarding employee welfare, office updates, and new clients/projects.
• Social Committee, Member
Member of the committee in charge of planning office events such as in-office happy hours, summer outings, and the office winter formal. Took various leadership roles for different events including caterer selection and organization, decoration selection and purchase, and raffle prize budgeting.
• College Campus Recruiting
Attended multiple college and university career fairs during spring and fall recruiting. Recruiting involved providing potential interns and full time employees with information about the company, the internship program, and what to expect as a full time employee. Was also responsible for reviewing resumes to determine interview selection.
