COMPOSITES PROCESS ENGINEER (06/2010 - current position)

- Process engineer involved in developing processes and increasing production from low-rate to high-rate production for composite stiffeners on the Airbus A350 program. Integral part of the manufacturing team to reduce flow time and overall costs of production parts.

- Development of automated composite forming processes for Airbus A350 structural stiffeners.

- Lead process engineer for first time pathfinder / prototype parts, developing and defining processes for unique composite part designs to be used for production parts.

- Coordinated and released procedures for all processes (including material preparation, forming, curing, machining, and inspection) for over 700 different Airbus A350 composite parts. Ensured processes were understood by operations in order to meet customer design requirements. Manage Bill of Materials (BOM).

- Directed rework activities such that all discrepancies were properly reworked and documented while meeting aggressive schedules.

- 8 years experience with Lean Manufacturing using Toyota Production System. Developed formal production operating plans, implemented work cells with visual shop floor control, Kanban pull systems, made effective use of 5S, Kaizen, waste elimination.

COMMERCIAL LAUNCH SYSTEMS MANUFACTURING / DESIGN ENGINEER (09/1997 – 06/2010)

- Released and maintained drawings, specifications and procedures and supported the manufacture of Delta and Orion rocket motors and igniters; prepared and presented Hardware Acceptance Reviews to customers.

- Engineer over shipping/transportation of motors off plant. Ensured shipping crews adhered to req’ts. Coordinated off-loading and receiving processing with launch sites. Provided launch site support at CCAFS and VAFB.

- Presided over procedure control meetings attended by documentation control, quality, safety, operations, tooling and program office to ensure initial processes and changes were clearly understood, performed safely, while meeting program requirements.

- Dispositioned, determined cause and implemented corrective actions of internally and externally caused discrepancies. Resolved supplier’s issues with acceptance data packages and with hardware discrepancies. Directed rework activities such that discrepancies were properly reworked and documented while meeting schedules.

- Prepared and presented periodic Process Owner Reviews to ensure operations readiness. Addressed availability and status of materials, procedures and tooling.

- Tracked and evaluated motor properties through usage of Statistical Process Control (SPC). Performed engineering analysis and implemented corrective actions to control trends and out-of-family attributes.

AIR FORCE PROGRAM OFFICE (05/1993 – 09/1997)

- Responsible for assessing the safety, performance and reliability of ICBM Minuteman and Peacekeeper rocket motors as they age. Updated Technical Orders (TOs).

- Prepared test plans and presented technical approaches for evaluating nozzles, composite cases and igniters to Hill Air Fore Base (HAFB) for the Rocket Systems Launch Program. Negotiated cost and schedules for the proposed testing with customer.

- Lead over the elimination of Ozone Depleting Compounds (ODCs) from all stages of MM and PK, including coordination with all propulsion subcontractors (Rocketdyne, Aerojet, and Thiokol) to jointly determine replacement solvents.

MAJOR SUBCONTRACTED MATERIALS ENGINEER (12/1989 – 05/1993)

- Developed and qualified components and assemblies for the Titan program. Released design disclosure, created test plans and test reports. Assemblies and components included: igniters, staging rockets, raceway and flight cables. Testing included: environmental (MIL-STD-810), transportation and operational loads, prior to final testing / evaluation.

- Provided technical support to suppliers to ensure program specifications have been properly flowed down and complied with in order to procure acceptable materials and parts. Reviewed supplier’s hardware, processes and documentation to ensure compliance to requirements. Negotiated cost and schedules with suppliers.

- Presented test and flight reviews to the customer and their consultants. Supported the motor assembly, disassembly and post-test inspection of components at Edwards AFB.

DEVELOPMENT / MFG ENGINEER (11/1983 – 11/1989)

- Production support for the manufacture of solid propellant composite case motors and components for A3 Polaris, C3 Poseidon, C4 Trident I, P2 Pershing, and Delta II. Supported sell-off of motors to customers, ensuring delivery dates were met.

- Lead Engineer for off-shift Support Team requiring scheduling of several engineers to support off-shift manufacturing and coordinating support with other disciplines to resolve production issues.
