BUZZI UNICEM, USA (formerly Lonestar Cement)
Oglesby, Illinois (2002 - 2006)
Cement manufacturing and associated quarry operations. Plant was initially constructed in the late 1800s and operation had not had a full-time environmental professional in the operations its history.
ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGER
Responsible for developing environmental programs to meet regulatory and permit requirements. Worked with plant operations and maintenance departments to develop methods that would achieve the required objectives while using a unionized workforce. In addition to routine environmental compliance activites, which included air and water discharge reporting, obtaining permits for changing operations, and daily evaluation of operational compliance, the following are significant accomplishments:
* Title V permit – Draft permit was issued in late 2002 and immediately "stayed" because of internal inconsistencies. A compliance strategy was developed to ensure that all permit requirements could be met when final permit is issued. Strategy included improving fugitive emissions control program, evaluation of existing construction permits and modifying to meet constructed systems, and evaluation of re-application strategies.
* Stormwater management – developed program to reduce rain runoff contamination potenial. Program included physical changes, and development and communication of new operational procedures.
* SPCC – upgraded existing oil spill prevention, control, and countermeasures (SPCCP) plan to meet the existing facility (cement plant and quarry areas) and the newly enacted regulations. Completed training of plant staff to develop an awareness of oil management requirements and emergency response measures in event of a spill.
SULLIVAN COUNTY PARK AND LAKE
Sullivan, Indiana (2000 - 2002)
Lake was constructed in late 1950s as a watershed management facility. Lake and associated campground is owned and operated Sullivan County, under the supervision of the County Council. Superintendent reports to a citizen Park Board whose members are appointed by the Council.
SUPERINTENDENT
Responsible for the daily management of the park and lake. Permenant staff included five maintenance people, a park accountant, and an office assistance. Summer staff included housekeepers, bait shop employees, security, and expanded maintenance staff. Previous superintendent was a retired police officer and had managed the park as a "campping club." Major accomplishement was moving the operation from a club to a business. Specific accomplishments included:
* Developed Master Plan for park – this required writing the plan, holding public meetings and communication with local politicians to ensure all needs were met. Opened a camp and bait shop in the park to meet the most requested development feature in the plan.
* Implemented business management systems – these included personnel hiring and record keeping procedures, position descriptions, and training.
* Initiated programs – started the first Earth Day celebration, an annual Easter Egg Hunt for children, an antique tractor show each fall, and various summer evening programs for children.
JPL ENGINEERING, INC.
Orlando, Florida (1995 – 2004)
A small, woman-owned consulting business located in Florida. Company supplied environmental consulting and civil design services.
PARTNER
Joined the firm to expand the environmental consulting practice, particularly in Michigan. Contributions included:
* Development of business plan for the company;
* Facilitated registration of company as a woman-owned, minority business in Florida to take advantage of set-aside opportunities;
* Review of all contracts used by the partnership and overview of all new contracts; and
* Served environmental clients in Michigan and Florida.
ICF KAISER, INC.
Chicago, Illinois (1991 – 1995)
Consulting and construction management company headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia. Areas of expertise included environmental, transportation, and engergy. Chicago office supported the transportation and environmental practices. The environmental group reported to a Vice President located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
BRANCH MANAGER
Responsible for the environmental practice, management of projects, and development of busines. Accomplishments include:
> Mentored a staff of 10 professionals: engineers, geologists, and public relations personnel;
> Developed and maintained environmental clients in the Chicago area; and
> Served a lead technical role on a project for the US Air Force. Spent one year working in Guam and managing a project staff of up to 25 people. Expanded contracted work by more than $1 million.

An engineering and construction firm headquartered in Pittsburgy. The company specailzes in service to the steel and related heavy industries. Illinois office was stated bu aqiusition of a water/wastewater treatment firm.
MANAGER, REGULATORY AFFAIRS
Orignially joined firm as a contractor working with junior engineers on storm and wastewater contracts. Company created a new position to align the construction and engineering business sectors with environmental consulting.
* Responsible for environmental compliance projects.
* Expanded consulting opportunities into solid and hazardous wasate compliance and remediation.
* Ensured construction projects complied with environmental and OSHA standards.
ERM – NORTH CENTRAL, INC.
Deerfield, Illinois (1989 – 1990)
ERM, Inc., headquartered in Exton, Pennsylvania, was a diversified environmental consulting practice consisting of numberous affiliated offices around the world. The North Central operation was primarily controlled by local partners, with ERM, Inc. owning a minority share of the business.
SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER
Played a key role on a major Superfund remedial design and construction project. Supervised junior staff in development of all design plans, including quality assurance, design(QAPP), data collection, and health and safety. Key projects and contributions:
* Developed an awareness of health and safety requirements at superfund and other hazardous waste sites;
* Completed due diligence and environmental assessments at a variety of sites, including housing development properties, mink farm, hog processing plant, specialty chemcical plant, and printing operation.

A member of the corporate environmental staff, which was co-located with the chemical business groups. Provided in-house consulting support to pesticide, machinery, and chemical facilities throughout the United States. Other accomplishments include:
* Provided technical oversight on the cleanup of the Number 1 Superfund site in the United States. Required interfacing with legal staff and outside counsel, environmental agencies (state and federal), environmental consultants, and construction contractor.
* Instrumental in the development of corporate standards and policies that defined the manner in which the corporation did its business. Included development of internal environmental audits and implementation of environmental audits of commercial waste handling facilities.
* Member of corporate development team that explored use of stabablized peroxide for subsurface remediation of organic contamination.

Firm was an enginering design and construction firm that specialized in the chemcical and petrochemical industries, as well as nuclear power permitting, design, and construction. Company was the largest contract maintenance firm in the Western Hemisphere.
PRINCIPAL ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER
Responsible for a $7 million study funded by the US EPA that resulted in the effluent guidelines for the organic chemicals and plastics and synthetic fibers industries. Other projects included:
* Wastewater evaluation and system design for an oil refinery,
