A product development professional with proven management and technical success in higher education, medical technology and I.T seeking to participate in the development of effective and high quality products in these areas. I have worked extensively with Abbott Laboratories, Rush Presbyterian St Luke's, and DeVry University. My skills range from the laboratory ( animal, biochemistry and mechanical ) to managing national programs. As a result I have proven innovative skills creating multiple courses in bio-medical technology, engineering models, co-inventor of 9 medical device patents, forms based software products, co-editor to two books in process and an Internet marketing approach. I have a knack for making innovative change happen. In particular I am specifically oriented towards process improvement and development including software with programming experience and testing experience in Unix Scripting, C++ and Visual Basic. In addition I bring a culturally sensitive approach to my work environment and have a well developed sense of respect for ethnic diversity. This sensitivity is supported by language skills in Spanish and French that can be brought up to conversational level in short order.

2004 – 2007 Program Director for Biomedical Technology Programs and Director of Outcomes Assessment, DeVry University

Managed the Biomedical Engineering Technology and the Biomedical Informatics programs. Managed the reinvigoration of the outcomes assessment processes nationwide using improved student learning as the primary objective.

Accomplishments

Program Director -

Supported campuses during ABET reviews of the BMET program.

Managed the creation of all BMET courses from concept to distribution to the campuses.

Managed the successful roll-out of the B.S. Biomedical Engineering Technology program (BMET) at eighteen campuses in 2004. Among largest and only accredited B.S. BMET program in nation in 2007.

Managed the successful roll-out of the B.S. Biomedical Informatics (BMI) program at thirteen campuses in 2004.

Coordinated multiple departments ranging from academic recruiting to career services at each campus.

Under my management total revenue of the BMET program reached 8 figures per year. Potential size estimated at over double current revenues.

Created new marketing technique that demonstrated a 20% improvement in BMET applications for Fall 2007 while other technical program application numbers remained essentially stagnant.

Co-editor of a soon to be published custom physiology for bioengineering technology textbook.

Director of Outcomes Assessment

Managed the analysis the outcomes assessment status and needs of the undergraduate and graduate schools at DeVry, Inc.

Determined level of compliance with outcomes assessment processes at corporate level.

Recruited and lead team to reevaluate best practices of the outcomes assessment processes used by the corporation.

Created and executed an outcomes assessment status survey to establish compliance at campus level.

2001 to 2004 Installation Coordinator – Hub Group Distribution Services

Managed installations of display fixtures throughout the continental U.S. Also managed the delivery of drug samples to sales representatives.

2000 to 2001 Software Engineer - Focal Communications Corporation / Assistant Professor at University of Illinois, Circle Campus

Developed test conditions, test scripts, programmed and performed unit tests as a team member upgrading Prism proprietary software using C++, Roguewave, Unix and Sql.

1999 to 2000 Harris Network Manager administrator- Focal Communications Corporation / Assistant Professor at University of Illinois, Circle Campus

HNM administrator for Focal National Surveillance Operations Center to expand IT experience and thereby broaden marketability while applying for biomedical positions. Developed 2 system monitoring Unix scripts, project manager/developer for Harris / Java based cross platform program and key contributor to 1 proprietary software solution for Unix based Harris Network Management system. Software monitored alarm status of numerous switches, transport hardware and environmental alarms. Monitored assets had a value of well over $100,000,000.

Accomplishments

1997 to 2000 Contractor – IT, Blistex Incorporated

Working under contract to Blistex Incorporated maintaining production database in Adage a comprehensive business management program. Responsibilities include programming, teaching, maintaining quality control specifications, production formula, production routers, and production processes.

Accomplishments:

Developed a series of productivity improving MS ACCESS and MS EXCEL based user interfaces using forms and VBA and VBE.

Database interfaces received positively by production, planning and customer service cutting process planning time from hours to minutes.

1997 to Present Adjunct Professor at University of Illinois, Circle Campus

Working with Richard Magin, PhD., Chairman of the Department of Bioengineering, University of Illinois Circle Campus to develop unique new program that will give graduates a competitive edge in commercial arena.

Created and taught new course in Medical Device Product Development. Applying for grants to develop unique sensor, peritoneal dialysis, and sterilization concepts.

1988-1997 Principal Engineer, Abbott Laboratories, Hospital Products Division R&D

Responsibilities included leading an entrepreneurial team, acting as analytical consultant, translating medical needs to product requirements, writing R&D regulatory documents, promoting market research education, interviewing customers, promoting new R&D culture, analyzing impact of current R&D culture, analyzing potential of new market opportunities, training technicians to program in real time data processing environment, inventing new concepts that had commercial value, and writing and carrying out scientific protocols.

Accomplishments

Co-inventor 9 patents

Gained business unit support for circadian based drug delivery system concept and project was in process of being evaluated for inclusion into approved project list when I left the corporation.

This team highlighted the business potential and technical hurdles of a circadian controlled drug delivery methodology for cancer therapy and championed approach to various business units.

$30,000,000 yearly total sales potential predicted for corporation.

Developer of the engineering model that forms the basis for establishing what information and design requirements are needed to obtain sterilization conditions for heat labile drugs in a patented high temperature short process time system.

Introduced completely new area for the division the model played a critical role in the acceptance of the high efficiency concept presented.

Model was key in debugging prototype of commercial system.
