OBJECTIVE:

I wish to pursue a challenging and fulfilling career within quality engineering. (I have over 25 years experience in the automotive management field.)

EXPERIENCE:

Means Industries, Inc.

(July 1997 through July 2008)

One Way Clutch Business Unit

Saginaw, Michigan 48601

Design Manager

The manager of the Product Design and Analysis Department. As the manager I oversee all aspects of the engineering activities including the purchase and maintenance of the various software packages we use, establish and monitor the training needs, perform the personnel performance appraisals, assign the work projects to both the product design people and the analysis people, and monitor the performance to the departments’ budget. I worked closely with the sales, purchasing, quality, and the advanced product departments to coordinate the projects on new and current products. In addition to being the department manager, I also worked with our customers product and service engineers to develop time lines for production programs. At Means we design, develop, test, and manufacture one way clutches for automotive automatic transmissions. Their major customers were Ford and General Motors. Currently I am a RAB certified Lead Auditor for ISO 14001:2004, QS-9000, and ISO/TS-16949: 2002 and lead all of the automotive and environmental audits that are required to maintain the company’s registrations. As the manager I personally developed the processes for the Department, which includes the engineering change system, the work order system, the part numbering system, and the engineering data retention system. I also developed the engineering process procedures and instructions required for the TS-16949 certification. At Means we use ProEngineer for the CAD package. Means uses ProMechanica, Algor, and NX Nastran for the finite analysis work. They use Microsoft Office products on the company network. Means is in the process of implementing “SAP” for the MRP/MRO system and training the users in data entry. I was part of the implementation team. In addition to managing the Design and Analysis Departments, I also was the Project Manager for the development of a one-way-clutch in a torque converter for use in an automotive automatic transmission.

Borg-Warner Automotive

(January 1980 to July 1997)

Sterling Heights, Michigan 48314

Principal Engineer

Supervisor of both the Product Design Group and the Engineering Records Group. At Borg- Warner we used Anvil 5000 as the CAD software. Anvil was a fully parametric package from MCS. I established the priorities and assigned all of the design work. This included product, prototype, tooling, and test equipment. I had design projects of my own as well as contributing to all projects within the group. I was a project manager for the 16-½ inch and 14 -½ inch torque converter systems for the Allison World Transmission program “WT” as well as a 250 mm converter system for HMC in Korea. I was also a major contributor to the Chrysler Jeep and the Dodge Ram converter programs. At Borg-Warner, we worked on torque converter systems for automotive, industrial, and military use.

Supervise and coordinate the design and development of future Borg-Warner products and processes, such as the cast cover and powdered metal outer races with the incorporated spring retainers for the “WT” converter program, the pre-finished impeller hubs, the Phenolic plastic reactor vs. the aluminum die cast, the two-piece turbine hobs, the Pawl one-way clutch, and the slip clutch vs. the damper program. Some of these products remain in production at this time. I have worked with forgings, castings, stampings, various machining processes, various materials, and various assembly processes including brazing. I also designed the 200 HP and 600 HP Electric Dynamometer Test Cells.

In addition to my design work, I oversaw the Engineering Records Department. Directing the establishment of Engineering Specifications and Manufacturing Process Documentation. I personally created the product structures and the Engineering Change Documents. I authored the Engineering Procedures and Work instructions for QS-9000.
