Career Summary
Evolved the field of genomics by developing and deploying platforms devoted to the analysis of botanical, microbial, human and other
mammalian organisms. Contributed to the future of medical research and gene therapy by developing vectors for the analysis and
treatment of terminal diseases.
Research Work Experience
Staff Scientist –Genomics Laboratory, April 2009 – May 2011
David H. Murdock Research Institute – Kannapolis, NC
http://www.dhmri.org
As Staff Scientist of the Genomics Laboratory I deployed and optimized numerous platforms devoted to genotyping, gene expression,
copy number variation, methylation analysis and other genomic applications within DHMRI at the North Carolina Research Campus.
Brought together the lab’s critical information by designing and implementing a web based LIMS/ELN system. I collaborated with the
academic community as well as private industry on large and small projects alike. Over the past two years I have been heavily involved
in the experimental design, production and data analysis of multiple $100K+ projects devoted to understanding of the genomic basis of
multiple sclerosis, autism, muscular dystrophy, osteoarthritis, cardiovascular disease, acne, cancer, fatty liver and other human diseases.
Related Techniques/Instruments
• Genotyping, Expression Analysis & Methylation Analysis / Illumina-iScan
• Liquid Handling Robotics / Tecan Freedom Evo, Thermo Matrix, Qiagen Universal, Bio-Mek NX
• Gene Expression & Genotyping / Affymetrix GeneChip Scanner 3000 & Fluidics Station
• Targeted Gene Expression, Genotyping & Methylation Analysis / Sequenom-MassArray Compact, RS1000 Nano-Dispenser &

• Genotyping, SNP Validation, CNV Analysis, library quantification, Methylation Analysis / ABI 7900HT qPCR
Vector Design Engineer - McColl-Lockwood Muscular Dystrophy Laboratory- December 2003 – November 2007
Carolinas Healthcare System. – Charlotte, NC
http://www.carolinasmedicalcenters.com
As vector design engineer of the McColl-Lockwood Muscular Dystrophy team I designed and constructed vector systems for the study of
and eventual therapy of Becker, Duchenne and Limb-Girdle muscular dystrophies with a focus on the FKRP, Dystrophin and alpha-
Dystroglycan genes. Some of these vectors are still being used to this day to further the knowledge and treatment of Muscular
Dystrophies.
Related Techniques/Equipment
• Plasmid Vector Design & Construction
• Gene synthesis
• Nucleic Acid Isolation & Purification
• Site-Directed Mutagenesis
Research & Development Manager- Membrane Separations Technology- December 1997 – February 2003
Separation Technology Inc – Rock Hill, SC
As Research & Development Manager, I developed separations processes for industry by leveraging thin-film membrane technology
such as reverse osmosis, ultra -, micro-, and nano-filtration systems. I performed more than 100 failure analyses on thin-film composite
membrane modules for the chemical synthesis industry and municipalities. Membrane technology has grown exponentially in recent
years in the development of new and exciting products. In my tenure at Separation Technology I was involved in the development of the
first organic light emitting diodes (OLED), which has burst onto the scene in recent months as a leap forward in display technology.
