PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
CATERPILLAR, Peoria, Illinois (contract), Jan. 2012 - Present
Large Power Systems Development (LPSD), Design Engineer
Caterpillar engine development project
• Performed oil pan analysis in Pro/E under varied oil levels, thereby saved time and expenditure on executing tilt table tests.
• Provided support to Caterpillar engineers in troubleshooting and maintenance of Pro/E assembly model of single cylinder test engine developed with AVL, Austria.
• Pro/E design responsibility for structural and thermal analysis of engine models,
- Modeled the coolant flow volume for CFD analysis of convective heating.
- Derived the BOM weight for the Marine engine variants for structural analysis.
- Computed marine engine crankcase volume towards selection of the appropriate explosion valve.
• Used Pro/E in the concept mounting of Caterpillar heavy duty air cleaner for twin turbo configuration.
Design deviations project
• Lead a group of 3 in reviewing design deviations applying tolerance stack up analysis. Facilitated timely release of updated drawings as per Caterpillar and Supplier requirements.
OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY, Columbus, Ohio Feb. 2009 - Dec. 2011
Graduate Research Assistant - Department of Mechanical Engineering
• Developed Ansys code to optimize an AISI 304 steel universal coupling design under maximum dynamic torque.
• Executed thermo-mechanical analysis on a flat-footed railway line model and inferred the maximum stress location.
• Coursework: Finite Element Method (FEM), Applied FEM, Reliability Engineering, Applied Regression Analysis, Manipulators & Robotics, Fluid Mechanics, and Heat & Mass Transfer.
ASHOK LEYLAND, Chennai, India
(2nd largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in India) Jun. 2007 - Aug. 2009
