ENGINEERING MANAGER, P.E.

Product Design / Failure Analysis / CAD / Mechanical Engineering / Quality Control / Testing Needs Analysis / Process Improvement / Troubleshooting / Product Development / Compliance

From hydraulic cylinders to medical devices to geotech, I design products that increase market share and drive revenue. Cutting costs, assuring compliance and bringing successful products to market, my process improvements and fabrication recommendations have been adopted by hydraulic cylinder manufacturers and medical device companies alike.

Creating innovation in analysis methods, cutting errors, driving new standards, increasing accuracy and reducing costs, I enabled timely product delivery to aggressively seize new global markets and boost customer retention.

 Going beyond traditional testing methods to find root cause

 Designing procedural standardization, streamlining complex processes

 Developing new processes to enable product manufacture

 Reducing errors and maintaining consistent quality results

I earned my BS in Mechanical Engineering and my BS in Business at the University of Kansas, Lawrence. Continuing my professional development, I hold a number of Professional Engineer licenses. Peers see me as exceptionally honest, quick with a reliable solution at a minimal cost.

SELECTED ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Rescued Lucrative Contract with Product Resolution. Great Bend Industries faced costly customer loss due to product failure. Analyzed all components and positioning, detecting evidence of extreme high pressure resulting in a damage-causing internal explosion. Designed equipment “bleeding procedure”, salvaging annual $1M contract.

Drove Revenue with Superior Customer Service. US and German customers experienced an inexplicably high rate of leaky rod seals. Traditional testing revealed nothing. Conducted on-site temperature test, revealing problem. Adjusted specifications accordingly, increasing product credibility and customer trust, boosting annual sales $2M.

Prevented Costly Recall with Product Solution. Field failures threatened Great Bend with expensive recall. Inspected cylinders, failing to duplicate problem. Focused on seals, discovering unacceptable wear. Worked with seal manufacturer, changing the seal type and material. Enabled industry-wide adoption and avoided $.5M recall.

Designed New Fabrication Process, Seizing Market Share. Initial design for bariatric equipment at Wheelchairs of Kansas proved too heavy. Proposed use of aluminum, developing custom heat-treated welds to improve strength while remaining lightweight. Produced entire new product line, increasing revenue 20%.

CAREER SUMMARY

VP of Engineering, Reynolds & Associates, geotechnical engineering firm, 2005 to the present. Direct research, review and reporting for site and hazardous conditions, pavement designs and foundation recommendations.
