This included independent fund research and grants development, grant and contract management (including writing agency contracts, preparing appropriate reports, planning and implementing various community service program budgets of $1,000,000 recruiting, hiring and evaluating program management staff and MSW interns, designing child abuse and neglect prevention services, identifying collaborative community partners to support the agency’s initiatives. Led the planning of an inaugural Colloquium on the Impact of Parental Incarceration in the District that attracted 75 leaders in government, private agencies and community leaders to present agency baseline data for policy considerations. Wrote a variety of agency policies and procedures during a 2-year preparation for application to the Council on Accreditation. In addition, served as the Director responsible for program development and management of the JC Nalle Community School program for the initial 5 year partnership with the Freddie Mac Foundation for 150 students participating in the afterschool and supportive services programs (mental health, parenting education, summer camp, GED, referrals) to 325 students. Developed and supervised the activities of staff providing parenting education groups, outreach to fathers and children affected by parental incarceration.

Responsibilities included: Provision of emergency response to a major hospital, serving children. Emergency response included assessment of suspected child abuse and/or neglect of children (using anatomically correct dolls and other play therapy tools as necessary) and immediate intervention in cases that were substantiated. The child and accompanying caretaker interviews, consultation with medical staff regarding examination/medical findings were included in this process. Following the assessment, treatment recommendations were forwarded to treatment team. Reports were made to the appropriate jurisdiction in the metropolitan area in which the abuse occurred, including local Child Protective Services offices and/or the police.

In the case of substantiated reports of suspected abuse/neglect adolescents, the focus centered on feelings associated with abuse/neglect, future safety and transition to residential care programs. In addition, shift supervision of a community based residential youth program and 24-hour hotline crisis response to adolescent callers and their families were included.
