ACADEMIC PROJECTS

Built my own IP router using Libpcap:

Built an IP router, which captured packets sent to it, determined the next hop and then sent the packet to that next hop. Also implemented CIDR and enough ICMP support to get traceroute to work properly. Throughput of router: 900mbps.

Improving TCP Performance over Lossy Links:

Implemented store and forward router to improve TCP performance over lossy link. The router sends an ACK to the sender on receiving a packet to avoid time out and congestion control module to get in action. It also resends the missing packet to the receiver. Throughput increased by 4000 times.

Implemented Content Based Router:

In client-server environment, the server sent raw data packets that contain one of four words, RED, BLUE, GREEN or YELLOW in a random fashion. The router was configured to route the raw packets according to the word.

Firewall using OpenFlow Switches:

Measured the performance of firewall with a single node with X number of rules and split them up intelligently to optimize the maximum throughput using NetFPGA OpenFlow switches (implementing TCAMs and onboard SRAM to support flow tables).

Project on building File Transfer Utility:

Implemented File transfer Utility over UDP protocol to transfer huge files from source to destination reliably over links with loss and latency.

Project on Nachos OS:

Implementation of Significant Parts of the operating system – C/C++:

Built and enhanced significant parts of NACHOS using C/C++ and implemented Operating System concepts of -

• Thread Management - Locks and condition variables to obtain mutual exclusion and synchronization

• System Calls & Multiprogramming - Implemented FORK and EXEC calls

• Virtual Memory & Remote Procedure Calls - Programmed software-management for TLB and virtual memory

• Networking in distributed systems - Implemented distributed mutual exclusions

UNIX Socket Programming:

• Established communication between entities over TCP and UDP sockets in a network with client-server architecture for simulating a query based system for books between users, libraries and database.(C, UNIX)

Project on Communication System:

• Built digital communication system that implements the transmitter, receiver, and AWGN channel. Developed sample-based simulations as compared to symbol based simulations.

• Generate results for BPSK, QPSK and 8-PSK waveforms.(MATLAB)

DTV and WCDMA Transmitters and Receivers Project:

• Built receivers and process two different waveforms: digital television (DTV) and Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA).

• Built transmitter for the WCDMA uplink that implements the DPDCH and DPCCH and supports both single and multi-code transmission via OVSF codes and scrambling sequences and model waveform performance with a Class AB gallium nitride (GaN) power amplifier (PA) at different drive levels.

Microcontroller Based Wireless Robot:

• Implemented a ROBOT which is controlled through wireless instruction given through the keypad and more over it can also be controlled over through GSM/CDMA network i.e. through mobile.
