I helped a Professor with his genetics research on scorpion DNA. In doing so, I gained experience doing several laboratory protocols. Examples include using the polymerase chain reaction, gel electrophoresis, and bacterial cell culture.

The purpose of my work was to cut out and then insert segments of the scorpion DNA into bacteria cells. I isolated colonies of the bacteria to be sent to another facility for DNA sequencing.

I was required to keep a detailed lab book and to turn in a report for my Professors records.

Teaching Assistant
