Leadership:

• Girl Scout Gold Award: Achieved the highest award in Girl Scouts by dedicating over 500 hours to organizing dinners at the Bridge of Hope Church program for abused and battered women and their children. I also provided the children with a craft program with donated toys, books, and craft supplies (1999-2000).

• Girl Scout Silver Award: Achieved the second highest award in Girl Scouts by reconstructing a section of a local park. A new area of the park was created by added trees, plants, flowers, bird houses, a stone path, and a sitting area for the community (Spring 1998).

• Gamma Theta Upsilon Head of Fundraising: Responsible for creating fundraising programs to help collect money for the Geography Honors Society that can be used for things like clean-ups, hiking and kayaking trips and environmental awareness activities (Fall 2007-Spring 2008).

Worked as a naturalist intern giving informational tours into the Wetlands and educational talks on featured wetland/aquarium animals. Led outdoor educational lessons in the wetlands and beach to school groups ranging from 3rd to 8th grade. Led outreach programs that involved traveling around the area with live animals to do educational talks. Provided help with the Science Day Camps for kindergarten and 3rd graders. Created and designed a Plankton Activity to add to the school group programs.

• Educational Intern

Jenkinson’s Aquarium- Pt. Pleasant, New Jersey (Summer 2005):

Tour guide for groups of 10-25 people (ages pre-K to 18). Gave educational talks about some of the animals in the aquarium and helped with the summer camp program. Read to children during the Aquariums story-time program. Performed water-tests on the tanks to make sure they were healthy environments for the animals. Helped prepare food and feed all aquarium animals. Designed and built new toys for the marmoset monkeys and harbor seals.

Student Teaching Experience:

• McConnellsburg Area Middle School, PA- Taught Ecology to 7th grade Life Science classes and covered topics such as Newton’s Laws, force, mass, and acceleration with the 8th grade Physical Science classes at McConnellsburg Area Middle School in McConnellsburg, PA. (Jan.-March 2008)

• Greencastle-Antrim High School and Environmental Center (Tayamentasachta), PA: Taught environmental science programs to grades K-6 and created a Soils and Recycling program to add to the Center’s curriculum. An intro program on how to use GPS handsets was also created and presented to a group of community members. A display case on local trees and tree ring history was also created to leave behind for the students and community. The school is located in Greencastle, PA. (March-May 2008)
