EXPERIENCE:
Administrative Experience: As Department Chair of Education at the Tohono O’odham Community College, duties include: administrative, budget managing, schedule coordinator, hiring, grants project director. Other activities include participation on advisory committees, teaching responsibilities, coordinating departmental efforts in the implementation of goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures, selection of adjunct faculty, coordinating efforts in training and mentoring of new faculty. Coordinating the selection of instructional support equipment, materials, maintenance, services, supplies, facilities planning and staffing needs. Coordinating student recruitment and retention initiatives. Coordinating certification of faculty, scheduling, tutoring. Coordinating departmental curriculum, program development and review. Coordinating department activities in articulating academic programs. Assisting in development of departmental budgets. Also, assisting in department staffing needs and evaluation of candidates for new faculty positions. Assisting in the writing of grant proposals for Department of Education, Department of Defense.
Teaching: Classes and lab included: Leaderships Skills, Study Skills, Biology, Microbiology, Medical Bacteriology, Biochemistry and Immunology. Other activities included advising students on academic goals as well as requirements for schedule and graduation. In charge of the University Clinical Laboratory for medical laboratory tests for the indigent.
Major Research Fields: Drug and alcohol abuse: Immunomodulation and AIDS, (B) Immune and nutritional restoration in a murine retroviral model of AIDS, (C) Immune mechanisms of heart disease in AIDS, (D) Infectious diseases: tuberculosis, retroviral infections, coxsackievirus (heart disease and Type 1 Diabetes).
