OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE, INC., Tampa, FL, Aug 2002 to Jun 2003
Consulting Director Voice and Data Networking
As the Consulting Director I was responsible for the implementation of networked computing structures, including web technologies: Internet, Intranet and Extranet development, implementation, and system maintenance. Maintained and enhanced the voice and data network, anchored by the XcelleNet application used to exchange data with an 800+ store heterogeneous WAN made up of DSL, Cable, Satellite, Frame Relay and, integrated T1 service.
CATALINA MARKETING, St. Petersburg, FL, 2000 to 2002
IT Director
As the IT Director I managed a staff of 35 IT professionals including a software development group of 10 programmers. I was responsible for the LAN and WAN, 6000 sq. ft. Datacenter, all Catalina workstations and non-data warehouse servers. Catalina used the XcelleNet application to exchange data with a 15,000 grocery store WAN accessed nightly via dial up modem. Raw shopping intelligence data was retrieved from the stores, loaded into an Oracle-based data warehouse, analyzed for shoppers buying patterns and then predictive coupon data pushed back to the stores. During my tenure at Catalina Marketing the company moved from its one story headquarters to a custom built four-story complex. I was integrally involved in all aspects of the building process and directly responsible for the wiring plant. During the transition I contracted with Verizon to provide a point-to-point dark fiber connection between the old building and the new. By doing this we were able to cohabitate in both buildings and appear as a flat LAN to all desktops and servers.

Director of Software Development
Certegy, formally Equifax Check Services, received check information sent to us from point of sale (POS) terminals at customer stores. We were responsible for receiving the check information, running a credit score calculation, confirming the validity of the check itself and returning an electronic approval or decline to the POS within 3 seconds. I lead a staff of 15 software developers who wrote the check handling software as well as the POS software. Some of the retailers who used our code and processes were Best Buy, Shoe Carnival and Sears.

Software Engineer
As a software engineer I was part of the development team for the CEC – Cooperative Engagement Capability weapons platform. Specifically I worked on the PBIT/PET boot software. I designed software using Rational object-oriented modeling, wrote code using Assembly Language, C++ and Ada and was trained in the use of object-oriented design and object-oriented programming methodologies. In addition, I worked on the software-based radio system. This system relied on custom-built printed circuit boards (PCB) that were then loaded with custom code to give the radio system selectable ‘personalities’. On this task I designed the black processor circuit board using Autodesk CAD software and Pro/E modeling software. In addition I wrote the power on initialization code for the black processor EPROM.
GENERAL DATACOMM, Middlebury, CT, 1985 to 1990
Data Communications Test Engineer
At GDC I was responsible for final test and acceptance of new communication products as well as developing hardware and software fixes for existing fielded products. In addition I designed and built a PC-based test bed with fixtures and communications patching capable of testing all GDC communication gear prior to its release to production.
GENERAL ELECTRIC, Pittsfield, MA, 1980 to 1985
