CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

Over 25 years of construction and estimating experience in commercial construction, multifamily apartments, and senior housing construction. Expertise in preconstruction and estimating. I have worked for general contractors as well as some of the nation’s top multifamily and senior housing developers.

EDUCATION

University of Florida, B.S., Building Construction, December 1983

COMPUTER PROFICIENCY

Microsoft Office, Agtek Earthwork 3D, Agtek Materials 3D, Timberline Estimating Extended, MC2, Planswift (Digital Takeoff and Estimating), P3, SureTrak and many other programs.

CURRENT EMPLOYMENT

Erickson Construction LLC. – Catonsville, Md. 2004 - Present

Vice President of Preconstruction Services.

Erickson Construction builds CCRC facilities for Erickson Retirement Communities. Contracted volume for 2008 was approximately 320 million dollars. Erickson Construction was not ranked by ENR, but annual volume was equivalent to ENR Top 200.

My work includes preconstruction, budgeting, and estimating of wood frame, steel frame and light gage steel panel apartment buildings in multiple markets around the United States. It has also included preconstruction for Community Centers, Nurse Care Centers, Parking Structures and Ancillary Structures of various types on Erickson’s Senior Housing Campuses. Erickson’s communities typically consist of 1,100 to 2,000 independent living units, 250+ beds of assisted living / skilled nursing facilities, plus all support and infrastructure construction. In addition to projects built, there were many other projects, campus locations, major and minor studies done for Erickson Retirement’s building program

My position frequently calls for estimating and budgeting of other non retirement community projects. Examples have included highway and bridge construction, municipal water facilities, as well as the construction of a +/- 26 million dollar office building/TV production studio/data center for the company’s use.

My responsibilities have a significant emphasis on site development. Erickson typically contracts it’s own infrastructure for 80 to 120 acre tracts. I have budgeted and managed bids for on-site and off-site, utility construction, roadway and parking construction. Our site development packages also typically include earthwork, blasting, site MEP systems, bridge construction and landscape/hardscape construction, typically 30+/- million per campus.

I have had the opportunity to work with several manufacturers through rated assembly development, notably cement bonded particle board roof deck assemblies and composite joist floor systems. I have consulted on the use of alternative materials through UL testing and incorporation into the UL Fire Resistive Directory.

PREVIOUS RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

Clark Realty Builders, L.L.C. – Bethesda, Md.

Director of Preconstruction 2002 – 2003

Clark Realty Builders, (now Clark Builders Group), is a subsidiary of the Clark Construction Group, Inc. CRB was, and is, a top 10 Multifamily Builder.

This job consisted of preconstruction services, estimating, and supervision of estimating for third party and in-house developers. I worked with clients in the review of drawings, documents, systems evaluation and value engineering recommendations, scheduling and project budgeting. In addition to preconstruction work I participated in approximately 43 competitive bids.

Forest City Residential Group - Cleveland, Oh.

Director of Preconstruction Services 1997 – 2001

Forest City is a large publicly traded real estate corporation.

I was responsible for the production of estimates, budgets and for purchasing at Forest City Residential Group on a national level. I produced project budgets from conceptual level through procurement using varying contracting methodologies. Forest City’s construction program included the use of an in-house construction department, outside prime trade contractors, and third party general contractors. Duties included direct supervision of estimator(s) and purchasing agent(s) for Forest City’s various multifamily projects. I prepared requests for proposal, sourced General Contractors, Prime Trade Contractors and Subcontractors. I prepared subcontracts, trade contract, and general contract documents. I reviewed plans and specifications for completeness and coordination prior to release for bidding and construction.

The multifamily construction done by Forest City was typically fairly complex in nature, and included mixed-use, adaptive reuse of historic buildings, mid-rise, high-rise, and extreme high density wood frame construction, (up to 100 units per acre in wood frame).

JPI – Las Colinas, Tx.

Chief Divisional Estimator 1996 – 1997

JPI was at that time, the largest builder of wood framed rental apartment housing in the USA, and was an ENR top 100 General Contractor.

My responsibilities included the production of all estimates for JPI’s Central, Southern and Student Housing Divisions. I supervised multiple estimating teams, reviewed all budgets for the regions I was attached to. I performed extensive value engineering and produced all conceptual and schematic level estimates for my regions. JPI’s work profile consisted of the construction of market rate and “class A” luxury apartments, associated parking structures, site development and amenities.

Mycon Corporation – Fort Lauderdale, Fl.

Chief Estimator 1994 – 1996

Mycon was a mid-sized general contractor, building mostly concrete and masonry multi-family product. Annual volume was $50 million - $75 million per year. Mycon did a mix of garden, mid-rise and high-rise apartments, and some public bid work.

I produced all bids, and supervised a senior estimator. Mycon’s work profile during this period was as a General Contractor specializing in apartment construction for private developers throughout Florida’s Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties. I also served as project manager for the 150-unit River Oaks Apartments in Florida City, Fla.

M.M. Parrish Construction Company – Gainesville, Fl.

Chief Estimator 1987 –1994

M.M. Parrish is a commercial general contractor with an annual volume of $70 million at that time. Their work profile consisted mostly of public schools, university buildings, healthcare facilities, hospitals and correctional facilities.

I supervised and /or performed all aspects of takeoff, pricing, and assembling of competitive bids. I managed approximately 95% of M.M. Parrish Construction Company’s estimating for over six years. My other duties sometimes included negotiation, award, preparation and writing of subcontracts and purchase orders. M.M. Parrish’s annual volume increased from approximately $25 million per year to $70 million per year, (through the recession of the late 1980’s and early 1990’s). I managed, trained and supervised the work of two other staff members, (one full time junior estimator, and one project manager/estimator). I also served as project manager for two plant expansions for the Anheuser Busch Metal Container Corporation, Shands Hospital Inpatient MRI Facility, and First Union National Bank renovations and additions in Gainesville, Fla.

Mycon Corporation – Fort Lauderdale, Fl.

Various Positions Estimator / Chief Estimator, Project Engineer, Project Manager 1984 – 1987

Estimator / Chief Estimator

Preliminary estimates, design / build, cost plus and competitive bid, in both public and private work. Annual volume was then approximately $35 million.

Project Engineer

Established and maintained computerized PERT/CPM construction schedules for a 400-unit, 31 building rental apartment complex, Walden Apartments, North Miami Florida (400 Units $10 million).

Project Manager

Served as project manager for 56-unit, $3.5 million Lakes of Newport Condominiums in Plantation, Florida as well as the $2 million Cell Site “E” in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which served as the main operations center for Cellular One’s Southeast Florida telephone system.
