OBJECTIVE
I am a jack of all trades engineer who developed an intense work ethic at a young age. I work
extremely well in groups, but have also excelled in “island situations” where large amounts of
responsibilities were dropped on me without any assistance. My heart is in Virginia, and my
objective is to find a Virginia company whose needs fit the type of work I enjoy performing,
can take pride in, and can offer new ideas to.
EDUCATION
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering; Minor in Mathematics August 2005
Saginaw Valley State University; University Center, MI 48710
ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE
Mechanical / Process / Reliability / D&D / Design Authority (DA) / Engineer
SRNS; DOE Savannah River Site Facility, Aiken SC 29803 August 2009 - Current
Currently working at a DOE regulated nuclear site for SRNS, a daughter company of
Newport News Nuclear, Flour and Honeywell. I currently work on the Trans-uranic
(TRU) waste remediation project where fissile materials and by products are
dispositioned. I am responsible for reliability and oversight of the process and design
authority over mechanical system engineering. I can disclose the equipment I trend,
maintain and develop process for includes mechanical fluid systems (pumps, pipes,
tanks, etc.) ventilation (process operates basically in a wind tunnel), HVAC (heating,
cooling for personnel), gantry cranes, motorized container movement vehicles, airlocks,
breathing air systems, mechanics of monitoring and alarm systems and various other
required systems. This project entered the processing phase in March 2011, and prior
to that I was on the engineering / construction team to modify a cold war nuclear
processing facility to accommodate the needs of the TRU project.
The engineering design and reconstruction of the nuclear facility mentioned above
began in summer 2010, was oversaw by the DOE, and met the most stringent
requirements. I was required to implement all applicable codes and standards (DOE,
Site Standards, IBC, ASME, ANSI, OSHA, NFPA, etc.) to all designs and
modifications required by project scope. I am well versed in codes and standards.
I began my career for SRNS as a sub-contractor performing deactivation and
decommissioning of legacy nuclear facilities. I developed a vast amount of heavy
construction experience in this time-frame, but funding for that scope began to run out
and the company hired me on as permanent employee for the TRU project.
All facets of work at this site requires working coherently with a large amount of
representatives. I am professionally sociable and have performed safety, industrial
hazard, operations, radiological protection and construction cross-over projects in large
teams. I oversee process personnel and have broadened my work experiences to
disciplines including chemical, civil, electrical and fire protection engineering.
I regularly use CAD, recognized codes and standards, produce presentations, system
health reports, trending, process plans, professional documents, budgets, etc. etc.
Project / Design Engineer
Ascend Engineering Inc. (AEI) / VEETech P.C. /; Aiken, SC Jan. 2006 – Aug. 2009
This company consisted of the president and myself, and together we built water and
air process treatment, environmental clean-up and biodiesel process facilities. The
systems I engineered included pumps, piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, steam
systems, boilers, ventilation, centrifuges, distillations and custom equipment (designed
by me). I also designed a parking lot and several civil construction type projects.
Collaborated with, and procurement from vendors to ensure the mechanical needs of
the design are met, generating pertinent documentation, including proposals, budgets,
zoning, EPA and construction permits, design drawings, architectural layouts, P&IDs,
start-up and maintenance manuals, waste profiles, service agreements, etc., and
organize and oversee construction, start-up and turnover of facilities.
Often I ran the entire gambit of a small business. Marketing, proposals, permits,
engineering systems, budgeting, presentation, construction and delivery; basically
cradle to grave project engineering.
Engineer Co-Op
Delphi Automotive and SVSU January 2005 – August 2005
Worked in a small team setting to develop a new electronic gear shift feature for the
Cadillac Deville, replacing the existing steering-wheel mounted manual shifter with an
electronic push button control shifter with LED display. In early 2005 the design was
innovative, and was used as a foundation for Current Cadillac steering column designs.
Material Research and Testing Technician at SVSU September 2003 – May 2004
Developed and tested corn-based bio-fuel compositions for presentation to the
Michigan Agricultural Board, fabricated an energy efficient corn-burning furnace for
use at a local homeless shelter. Developed various lab manuals for testing devices.
INCLUDED WORK EXPERIENCE (Employed since age 15, often in grueling jobs, worked for my
tuitions and can draw on many of those experiences and ethics evolved along the way)
General Construction Worker 1997 - 2005
Worked with Hayward Construction and several other construction outfits in Bay City,
MI, full time and part time while attending school. Collaborated with various other
contractors to effort job completion. Experienced in carpentry, plumbing, roofing,
drywall, electrical, painting, staining, flooring, power washing, etc.
Concrete Laborer 1997 - 1998
Worked at Northern Concrete Pipe in Bay City, MI. Fabricated reinforced concrete
pipes, mostly storm and sewer pipes, catch basins, flanges, transition pieces, etc.
Experienced in re-bar, trolling, cutting torches, welding, fork trucks, cement pours and
set-ups, cast set-ups, etc.
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Proficiency in various design programs (AutoCAD, Smart Sketch, solid Edge Modeling etc.),
Microsoft office programs, Smart Plant, writing governmental proposals, regulatory and safety
documentations, Engineering Standards recognition.
TRAINING AND CERTIFICATIONS
Hold an active Government Security Clearance. Completed training and qualifications for 50+
programs including: DA (Design Authority), F-System Qualifications, USQE (Unrecognized
Safety Question Evaluations) screener, Process Instrumentation Training, Waste Certification
Training, ALARA (As Low As reasonably Achievable) for design and operations engineering,
Industrial Hazards (IH), Consolidated Hazards Analysis (CHA), Hazardous Controls (HC),
Conduct of Ops, Respirator, Plastic Suit and Negative Pressure Qualification, Lockout Holder
Function, Beryllium and Asbestos training and Behavioral Based Safety (BBS). Complete
and documented training and certifications list available on request.
