***Pages 3 and 4 display a more detailed version of my educational background***
1. I graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering degree from San Diego State University in the spring of 2009. I have also passed the EIT exam issued by the California State Licensing Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors on the first try in April 2009.
2. I have experience with reading and preparing construction plans and schedules from my senior level construction engineering course taken in college. This experience includes creating detailed schedules using Gnatt charts and network diagrams, making detailed estimates using assemblies and the Uniformat II, and doing all of the necessary earthwork calculations when cut and fills were necessary. I was also responsible for developing equipment fleet assemblies by assessing production rates, machinery costs and constraints.
3. I have done extensive research for my senior thesis with waste water treatment facilities. Our project was to design a treatment facility that was large enough to provide a million San Diegans with clean drinking water. In order to accomplish this, we needed to successfully treat and transport forty million gallons of water through sixteen miles of pipeline to a reservoir. I was in charge of designing all of the treatment tanks, the pipeline, pump station, pump house, holding tanks, and the main reservoir. I have experience designing rapid mix tanks, flocculation tanks, and sedimentation tanks with weir outlets, filters and baffle walls using AutoCAD 2007. My primary duties were to design a pipeline to accommodate for this large amount of water, while taking pressure, weight, and velocity into consideration. Due to the massive flow rate, custom built pumps were needed and it was my duty to design the pump station that could achieve this flow and proper head. In order to do this, a great understanding of cavitation and pump performance curves is needed. We received great scores on our design and gave a ten minute PowerPoint presentation in front of our colleagues and professors. I also designed impulse turbines to create green energy. I am very interested in reusable energy and would love to work more with solar and wind energy.
4. For my senior thesis, I was in charge of preparing proper quantities and cost estimates. With a total project cost of $120 million, this shows that I have prepared cost estimates on a large scale. I have field experience with surveying as well. I spent a semester studying surveying which covered azimuths, bearings, back-sights, creating percent grades based on station elevations, plotting legal land descriptions, and creating departures based on traversing methods. I am able to calculate horizontal and vertical alignments based on design speeds and other constraints.
5. I have lab experience in many fields of engineering including fluid dynamics, surveying, highway design, solid mechanics, and geotechnical engineering. In solid mechanics, we would perform stress/strain experiments with steel and concrete. From that I learned a lot about yield strength, buckling strengths and necking. In geotechnical engineering, we performed many lab experiments to determine grain size distribution, dry unit weights, relative compactions, excess pore pressures, and coefficient of uniformity. We used various machines to perform these experiments including the falling head permeability method and standard proctor test to name a few.
6. I studied transportation/highway engineering under Joseph Hall, a twenty year professional with CalTrans. Through this course, I have learned to read detailed project plans and use many parts of the Highway Capacity Manual. I am able to calculate horizontal and vertical curves, superelevation, and level of service (LOS) based on peak hour factors, ADTs, directional splits and percent traffic in peak hour. I have experience designing freeways and number of lanes based on density and design speed. I know how to calculate all sight distances including stopping sight distance, passing sight distance, decision sight distance, and corner sight distance. I can find low points on sag curves using BVC and EVC elevations and high points of crest vertical curves. This is critical to know for drainage purposes. I have experience using the Highway Design Manual (HDM), San Diego County Hydrology Manual (SDCHM) and rainfall Isopluvial charts. I used both of these manuals for determining runoff coefficients for both undeveloped and developed areas. In addition to these skills, I can also calculate structural sections for roadways by analyzing traffic index (TI) and R-values to calculate the proper gravel equivalent values (GE) to get the appropriate thicknesses for each section. Based on the thicknesses of the HVAC, base, and sub base, I can create cost estimates for paving roads based on the volume of supplies needed.
7. I have two years of experience using ArcGIS 9 and ArcView 9.2. I have a wide range of skills within this program. I have used ArcGIS 9 in the past to create elevation profiles using the 3D-analyst and Spatial analyst. I used ArcGIS 9 in the past to calculate elevations and water depths of reservoirs included Lake Murray in La Mesa California. Reference my resume for full listing of professional skills including other computer program experience.
8. I have been using AutoCAD 2007 and AutoCAD 2008 for a total of three years at my university. I used AutoCAD extensively for my senior thesis as well as for personal use when I am designing my own inventions. I have used CADD programs for creating structural sections, superelevation diagrams, and detailed cross-sectional views of water treatment tanks, reservoirs, pump houses and pipelines. Again, reference my resume for full listing of professional skills including other computer program experience.
