Increased profitability within the Vertical Turbine product line due to completion of a comprehensive marketing study of competitor’s price levels & materials; manufacturing cost analyses of our company’s existing products; results show many hydraulic offerings were under market price when compared to competitors.
Jan 1996 PEERLESS PUMP COMPANY Indianapolis, IN
to Dec 1998 Sr. Application Engineer / Project Manager
Designed custom components (bowl assemblies, column & heads) for orders
Negotiated engineering change orders, improving overall profitability of projects
Responsible for inventory usage while designing equipment for existing orders
Provide engineering technical support for sales distribution network, vert. & horiz.
Estimate material & equipment costs while generating competitive bid proposals
Analyze technical & commercial specification, matching company equipment
Accomplishments:
Revived outdated design specific to submersible turbine pumps, creating a series of new business opportunities for Peerless Pump. Created orders for $500k the first year the product offering was available. Market showed demand for the product, but previous engineering personnel were unable to troubleshoot maintenance problems that caused the original design to be shelved.
Generated a system for utilizing stock material not in the flow path of everyday orders. Visibility of on-the-shelf material was created in a monthly report; my additional responsibility was to train engineering personnel to recognize opportunities to reduce existing inventory. Reduction of vertical inventory material value in first year was $400k (from $3.2M down to $2.8M of existing inventory value).
