Network Field Technician / Network Engineer

I have worked for the past 5 years installing WAN network connections and designing, configuring, and maintaining core switches and routers that support 4.5 Gbits of Internet traffic, and over 30 Gbits of multiple businesses private network traffic as wellf as the infrastructure for a SIP VOIP business solution currently at 4000+ phones. This also includes maintenance of 15 Central Office locations. My responsibilities include Cisco, Dell, HP, Zhone, and Juniper switch, firewall, load balancer, and router configurations, hardware installation of servers and network equipment.

I have just completed the initial network buildout of a 170 cabinet Class A Datacenter, only the 2nd of its kind in Hawaii. This included coordination with security companies, installation of all networking equipment, and installation of all server hardware for a 500+ Virtual server environment. This also involved coordinating, moving, and installing over 100 different companies equipment that was located at other facilities.

January 2001 – May 2006 United States Navy

Sonar Technician Submarines / LAN Administrator

For 5 years I was stationed on a 688 Fast Attack Submarine. During this time, my primary job has been as a Sonar Technician/Sonar Supervisor. This job is paramount to the safety of the ship, and is a high stress job when deployed.

I am in charge of and responsible for training other Sonar Technicians and Officers about Sonar, Sonar employment, Electrical troubleshooting and safety, and LAN resources. In this role, I create the training matrix and either create and present the training myself, or have another qualified person conduct training.

Also during this time, I have acted as the LAN Administrator on the submarine. In this job, I am responsible for keeping the network and printers operational, verifying there are no security leaks for the Secret Network, and performing maintenance on computers and network cables / connections.

July 1998 – July 2000 Wal-Mart Inc., Bentonville, Arkansas

Network Engineer

Responsible for network infrastructure between the Home Office and all stores. Maintenance and troubleshooting of the network in all the stores. Required working knowledge of the following equipment: Cisco Routers (3600, 4000, 4700, 7200, 9000) and switches (2900, 3500, 4500, 5k), T1 lines, 56k Frame-Relay circuits, Async Dialup, Bay Network Hubs, ODS Infinity hubs, and Telxon Wireless networks. It also involves knowledge of the following routing protocols: EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, and Static routing.

During this time, I was responsible for redesigning the network in over 3,000 stores. The redesign involved removal of existing network hubs and routers, and upgrading to new routers, switches, and entirely new IP scheme. This project was the largest conversion of this magnitude to take place at Wal-Mart, and received an Award for Excellence. This project also allowed Wal-Mart to reclaim over 12 Public Class B IP Subnets that were returned to ARIN.

June 1995 – July 1998 NCR, Bentonville, Arkansas

Technical Support Engineer

Provide onsite support with the customer for equipment issues involving the following products: IBM 4690 registers, IBM NT Servers, NCR UNIX Servers, HP UNIX Servers, Lexmark Laser printers. Also provided onsite customer relations support at the customers home office. Dealing with relations between Field Engineers and the remote customer sites.
