EMPLOYMENT
EKA CHEMICALS INC. – Marietta, GA 1993-2012
Senior Application Scientist, 2007-2012
Promoted progressively based on laboratory work and significant time to support the field sales people to generate millions in new chemical sales opportunities. Advanced knowledge and application expertise of microparticle, dual polymer and other retention/ drainage systems (RDD) on Pulp and Paper machines. Helped generate increased wet end chemistry sales during depressed market conditions and protect sales when under competitive threats. Vast knowledge of the entire range of retention and drainage products used in the pulp and paper industry including the new micro and nano-chemistry technology.
• Project management skills to help conduct mill audits and studies with the task force group and tabulate data in database to present to the customer to gain additional mill chemical sales.
• Served on pioneer mill task force that increased market share by 20% in LWC/mechanical field of company chemical products by improving the technical package sold to mills.
• Conducted mill audits and laboratory testing that helped to piece together mill additives at the optimal dosage and locations to enhance mill retention and drainage performance.
• Served as Application Researcher for the development of four new products for ATCs and polymer line that were novel in pulp and paper application and the way they interacted in the mill furnish.
• Conceived new test procedures that illustrated and validated the enhanced capability of the new ATC product performance in wood pitch and coated broke applications.
• Led the project that used the application research knowledge to bring the several new ATC and polymer products in the company global product line. Worked and communicated with the field sales organization globally to launch and target key target mills that brought the company to the forefront in ATC treatment capability and sales. ATC sales in North America increased from $15K per month to more than $350K per month in the first year.
• Invented a Wet End Drainage Analyzer (patent pending) that generates its own vacuum, measures the drainage of a wide variety of pulp stock at a wide consistency range, and measures the intrinsic vacuum generated during the drainage cycle that mimics real world paper machines.
• Designed and built a novel Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) handheld.
• Performed significant internal modifications on the Dynamic Drainage Analyzer (DDA), used Database and Preventative Maintenance skills to keep seven units fully operational and saved several ten’s of thousands of dollars in maintenance costs per year.
• Increased efficiency of the Image Analysis laboratory by creating a software program that increased the speed of the X-Y motion table with digital motion capture and image analysis system.
• Developed print quality software programs for surface chemistry and wet end chemistry test procedure evaluation.
• Developed numerous microscopy techniques for wood pitch and coated broke test evaluation in the lab and for mill field testing.
• Created computer graphics and illustrations including mill process flow sheets for mill presentations and technical presentations.
• Improved training modules for the technical and sales force by creating graphic illustrations that provided more in-depth training.
• Received the 2007 “Shining Light” award, presented at company headquarters in Sweden, for substantial and implementable creative contributions to the organization.
Prior roles include technical sales, paper scientist, application chemist, and environmental engineering positions.
