Resume:

JOHN RAYMOND MALTHOUSE

Garden Grove, CA *****

714-***-****

********.****@*****.***

SUMMARY

* Versatile Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer using Pro/E (a 3D Solid Modeling CAD program) in various industries, such as Aerospace, Medical and Computer Peripherals

* Proficient in Pro/E through to version Wildfire 4 & Pro/Intralink Administration

* Well-versed in the use of Family Tables and Relationship Files to control the outcome of simple to complex parts and/or assemblies

* Intrigued by creating complex Injection Molded Parts and/or Assemblies, using required draft angles, fillets & radius, and other mold techniques to get the job done, for high volume production runs

* SolidWorks 2009 training

* Able to work independently, or as a team player

* Enthusiastic about taking on new challenges and/or difficult design projects/assignments

* Previous Secret Clearance (Military Service - USMC)

CAREER HISTORY

2008 – Present

Consultant / Design Engineer

* Design and modify parts & drawings for client projects, using Pro/E Wildfire 4, including structural, mechanical and electro-mechanical parts

2/11 – 4/11 (3 months contract)

Beckman Coulter

Quality Control Inspector

* Verified the workmanship on both parts and/or assemblies, to their Drawings and/or Inspection Plans, by using a variety of Precision Measuring Tools, such as Calipers, Micrometers, Gage Pins, Thread Gauges and Surface-Plate techniques

* Visual inspection of completeness of kits, i.e.: insure that all of the parts on the Kit BOM are present and up to the latest specifications

* Completed a First Article Inspection Report on a Variety of parts

* Set up and operated the CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) to do precision inspection measurements on a variety of parts

* Created Rejection Reports on failed parts or assemblies

1999 – 2007

Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics (Formerly Furon), Garden Grove, CA

Design Engineer

* Used Pro/E 2001 to create manifolds using discrete valves such as HPVs, CDVs, RDVs & SMDVs and J-Valves. Also designed block manifolds using the actuator portions of the same valves, following customer’s P&ID schematics

* Designed injection molded fittings used in the Fluid Control Industry, several Molded Valves (RDVs & SMDVs family) and Redesigned the CDV Family of Valve, primarily the bodies & caps

* Worked with Customers, Manufacturing Engineering and Molding Team, to insure highest quality of workmanship in creating Parts and Assemblies

* Converted from paper/vellum drawings, hundreds of machined and molded components using Pro/E 2001 and Pro/Intralink, reducing the need for a “vellum vault”

* Took initiative to learn new skills to improve use of Pro/E and conveyed these new skills to others

6/99 – 11/99 (5 months contract)

Furon, Anaheim, CA

Designer

* Assisted R&D engineering in designing a molded version of the Rolling Diaphragm Valve (RDV) and SMDV Family of Valves, eliminating the number of unique body assemblies(used in the older machined versions), while allowing for as many versions using interchangeable universal fitting, using Pro/E’s Family Tables, eliminating cost

5/99 (2 weeks contract)

Foxlink International, Brea, CA

Designer

* Using Pro/E, reverse engineered various plastic molded parts used in replacement products, such as Batteries Packs for cell phones (these used standard alkaline batteries)

3/98 – 11/98 (8 months contract)

Furon, Anaheim, CA

Designer

* Created injected molded parts and support drawings including Teflon Pipe, Tubing and other various Fittings

* Made use of Family Table and Relationship File capabilities of Pro/E (Many of these parts used Helical Sweeps to form the threads, including the HIGBEE Start and Stop used in the piping industry.)

* Created several sophisticated assemblies, supporting hundreds of valves used in the Fluid Control Industry, such as the HPV Family, The Rolling Diaphragm Valve (RDV) and SMDV Family of Valves

* Award received for the redesign of the (machined version) RDV/SMDV Family of Valves

8/97 – 1/98 (5 months contract)

Flex-Foot, Inc., Aliso Viejo, CA

Designer

* Created elaborate parts/assemblies and supported drawings of artificial feet for the handicapped using Family Tables (These parts are a more complex variety because many are fabricated from composite materials requiring additional information in the Family Tables and Relationship Files, within Pro/E. One Generic Part created over 50 different parts, just as one Generic Assembly created an equal number of complex assemblies.)

10/96 – 8/97 (10 months contract)

Hughes, El Segundo, CA

Designer

* Using Pro/E, assisted design engineers and designers in modeling various component parts for the aerospace industry including alignment tooling fixtures and parts for a prism-type telescope with optical prisms, mirrors, beam-splitters, various other mounting fixtures, and housings

* Used Pro/PDM for Components check-in/out

5/96 – 6/96 (6 weeks contract)

Allergan, Irvine, CA

Document Control

* Helped in maintaining a Project Design Book including printing/plotting of all current drawings for a new product

* Assisted engineering staff with modeling of plastic molded parts (using Pro/E), transferred from other 3D-CAD Programs

* Worked closely with the engineers to develop a new sand-cast base for the new product

10/95 – 4/96 (6 months contract)

ITT Cannon, Santa Ana, CA

Designer

* Designed many connector parts (using Pro/E) for the computer industry and added these same parts into connector assemblies using an extremely elaborate Family Table structure

* Created simplified representations and drawings for catalog usage

* All part and assembly model files were checked in/out of Pro/PDM

1986 – 1995

Seagate (Formerly Conner/Archive), Costa Mesa, CA

CAD Operator / Designer

* Supported the R&D and Sustaining Engineering Departments by modeling, creating, and maintaining various drawing packages

* Worked closely with the R&D Design Engineers on a new product including offering suggestions to help facilitate design and/or manufacture, using Pro/E (a 3D Solid Modeling CAD program)

* Created assembly drawing packages (electro-mechanical drawing packages) and part drawings for new Tape Drive Units

* Used Man-Man to structure and maintain hundreds of Bills of Materials (BOM’s)

* Created Matrix System to track and maintain tape drive products, which eliminated designing duplicates

* Aided and checked colleagues’ models and/or drawings in CAD and Vellum environments

1/85 – 1/86 (1 year contract)

Ericsson Information Systems, Anaheim, CA

Design Drafter

* Complete electro-mechanical drawing packages

* Designed sheet metal parts
