Buyer
GMT International Corporation
Rubber Molder
* / *011 – Present
Responsible for all purchasing activities in a demand flow environment. Purchase rubber compounds and metal components, all MRO items, office supplies, services and factory equipment. Interface with sales and production for scheduling requirements. Enter vendor invoices to start the voucher process for accounts payable. Saved over $18,000 in the first two months.
Senior Buyer
LXE, Inc.
Manufacturer of computer terminals and hand-held bar code scanners.
11 / 2000 -12 / 2009
Responsible for coordinating with engineers to select and qualify vendors, obtain and evaluate quotes. Negotiated contracts to obtain the best value while keeping production inventories at optimal levels. Procured all components needed for a new computer terminal in all phases of the project. While at LXE I was responsible for the purchasing of all components required for all the Vehicle mount computers, hand-held bar-code scanners (and wearable ring-scanner voice recognition wrist mount computers. I developed an on-line shared Excel spreadsheet that tracked order status of every component needed for the computer. It was my responsibility to review every CAD drawing and provide Bills of Material for engineer designed components. I was able to find minor errors by engineers during this review and have the errors corrected prior to sending to vendors. I would often need to help vendors find unique components or assist them with supply chain issues. I was involved daily with the engineering team and interfaced with marketing, sales, quality control, production, and reported to management on a weekly basis. In addition, I was on the RFID team that developed an antenna that would read RFID tags as far away as 15 feet. The normal range for RFID scanners at the time was less than one foot. This project required the responsibility to integrate the two engineering teams involved.
In addition to the major terminal projects I managed “Tactical “projects to improve existing products, and provide customer specific branded terminals that included special functions for the customer. The last hand scanner project I managed actually made two terminals; one for all LXE customers and one for a specific customer. This was the most complex hand-scanner using multiple variations depending on the type of scanning being performed. This project involved over 400 components that I managed and some components had lead times as long as 20 weeks.
I negotiated annual volume cost breaks and made significant cost savings by grouping common components in conjunction with the bid process. Every project required purchasing the first three months of production.
This position was also responsible for purchasing specific commodities for production that includes SD, PCMCIA, CF memory, Hard Drives, and mounting equipment for LXE Vehicle Terminals.
Buyer
Kliklok Corporation, Inc.
Manufacturer of carton forming equipment and weighing and bagging equipment.
05 / 1984 – 09 / 2000
Establish and qualify vendors to support demand generated by a MRP system. I had experience purchasing all major commodities including, motors, electronics, raw materials, and Maintenance and Repair requirements. I co-coordinated with engineering on finding sources for new components.
I was on the engineering team that developed modular Ultra High Molecular Weight plastic component components to assemble carton forming heads. This imitated the early use of electronic file transfer of CAD drawings to the plastic vendor.
I identified and selected a vendor to provide all the fasteners, bolts, nuts, and other hardware on a “Bread-Man” sight basis. I also negotiated the return of all non-stainless steel hardware as an even swap for stainless steel versions.
Operations Manager
Southwest Wheel, Inc.
Distributor of over-the-road truck (16 Wheel) and trailer parts.
11 / 1978 - 03/ 1984
I started work at Southwest Wheel as a part of their manager development program. I began work as a buyer in the Houston Texas branch. I was rotated to work in sales, inventory control, warehouse stocking, receiving and shipping operations. After three years of training I was promoted to assistant manager at the Lafayette, Louisiana branch. I became more involved with sales and daily management. One year later I was promoted to Branch (Operations) Manager. There I managed daily operations of heavy duty truck parts distribution center. Supervised sales, warehouse, and mechanic employees. Maintain inventory stocking levels from central company location. Purchase components specific for the region. As part of the management team I co-ordinate and implemented the transition from Card-X inventor to computer MRP system.
