Mainframe Services Manager 09/04 – 8/10
Environment:
Z900/Q03 mainframe, IBM DS8100 disk system, IBM 3494 tape silo, various servers and equipment.
Managed the day-to-day Operations of a 6 by 24 Data Center. I also managed the mainframe technical support staff, which consisted of 3 Systems Programmers, 3 Data Base Administrators and a Security Administrator.
Managed the Data Center facility, environment, power requirements, physical planning etc.
Conducted the weekly change management meetings and approved all changes to the production environment.
Created and maintained Data Center floors plan.
Disaster Recovery / BCP Planner. Negotiated the Disaster Recovery contracts with the external vendors and planned and executed the two D/R tests per year within the company. I also produced the Disaster Recovery reports that were distributed to upper management.
I implemented major cost saving initiatives that resulted in annual savings for the company in excess of $650,000. This was accomplished by utilizing sub capacity pricing features that are offered by IBM and by renegotiating existing software contracts.

Environment:
Two IBM 9672’s model R26 MVS/ESA converted to two IBM Z800’s, multiple IBM AS400’s models 170, 720,and 730, DEC Alpha Servers, numerous IBM RISC 6000 systems, two IBM 3494 Tape Silos coupled with two virtual tape systems (VTS) and several IBM SHARK disk systems.
Directed the combined Operations of The Mount Sinai and NYU Data Center Operations. I assisted in the actual Disaster Recovery and subsequent relocation of the NYU Data Center after 9/11.
Managed the day-to-day operations of the combined Mount Sinai and NYU Data Center.
Planned and managed the facility requirements for the main Data Center and the secondary Disaster Recovery site.
Developed and managed an offsite storage rotation process for both hospitals.
Created and maintained a Data Center floor plan for both computer centers.

Directed the operations of the information services department supporting the New York Presbyterian Hospitals Healthcare Network. Assisted in the merging and relocation of Data Centers into the NYPH Data Center located in midtown.
Coordinated the day-to-day activities in the Data Center in order to insure that all of the production was completed on timely basis and make the necessary improvements.
Trained the support staff on new equipment and workflow procedures to facilitate all service level commitments to be satisfied in an effective manner.

My primary objective was to purchase and install an IBM mainframe and convert/rewrite all of the systems from the DEC system to the IBM system. My responsibilities included hiring and managing an application development team for the project.
I was also responsible for all phases of the day to day production environment, administrative duties, and handling all of the communication equipment for the remote sites.

4 Perken Elmer Scientific systems capable of fast number crunching needed for financial trading calculating. Managed and maintained the online trading systems.
Assumed the position of Operations Manager in 8/81. On 6/82 the parent and Subsidiary Company merged their computer operations into one site. I was then promoted to the Director of Computer Operations for the combined Data Center workload for both companies.
