Student Airborne Research Program Participant Summer 2012

• Conducted research using remote sensing techniques to investigate the extent of edge effects in vineyard agriculture under

Susan Ustin, PhD and Professor, and through mentorship by Shane Grigsby

• Analyzed MASTER and DCS images using ENVI

• Collected remote sensing data, collected ground truth data through field work, performed atmospheric corrections, and

performed image mosaicking and georegistering

• Designed and completed a unique research project, aimed at solving a problem using the data collected on the science flight and

in the field. Project proposed, developed, and completed independently with approval and guidance from Professor Ustin and Mr.

Grigsby.

Research Experiences for Undergraduates Participant Summer 2011

• Conducted research on central floor pit craters on Mars under supervision of Nadine Barlow, PhD and Associate Professor

• Research protocol involved analyzing images of central floor pit craters on Mars from Arizona State University, using Excel and

ArcGIS to investigate trends in morphology and location across pit type to further constrain formation models

• Findings reveal a potential dependency in central floor pit crater type on target material and diameter of both the crater and the pit

• Presented findings at the national, professional Lunar and Planetary Science Conference in March of 2012

Rare Gas Laboratory Research Assistant Fall 2011

• Supported efforts of Robert Poreda, PhD, with his investigations of nanotubes and fullerenes in carbonaceous chondrites as

potential carrier phases for the early atmosphere and as a template for early organic molecules

• Used size-exclusion chromatography in attempts to isolate nanotubes; trained to use UV/Vis spectrometry in attempts to identify

nanotubes conclusively
