Director of Employee Rewards 2007-2009

FairPoint acquired a company five times its size and it was my responsibility to build a compensation and benefits team from the ground up and then consolidate all of the plans, policies and programs. Managed corporate compensation, executive compensation, sales compensation, benefits, and administrated all relative policies, plans and procedures, for 4,000 employees including seven direct and three indirect reports in this center of excellence. Adapted and implemented inherited benefit programs from acquisition of New England facilities. Worked closely with all outside vendors in order to institute all of the revised company policies, plans and procedures. Worked with an outside vendor to develop a new benefits system for the administration of benefits, open enrollment and interfacing with the Oracle HRIS system. Directed the establishment of new company wage and step tables, bonus structures, including sales compensation, and other programs that resulted in inter-company pay equity, increasing market competitiveness and work force retention.

LAKE FOREST HOSPITAL Lake Forest, Illinois

Manager of Compensation and Benefits 2001-2007

Spearheaded government reporting, compensation, benefits and payroll for this not for profit healthcare organization. Managed the day-to-day personnel decisions for 1,500 employees with three direct and three indirect reports. Improved productivity with enterprise resource planning by establishing a team, assessing the situation, developing a departmental plan and executing the strategy. Selected annual vendor benefits contracts; obtaining competitive market pricing, analyzing/ evaluating data, and negotiating with vendors, enhancing benefits profitability. Identified alternative plans/methodology and calculated the anticipated savings and the impact upon the employee. Implemented Lawson HRIS and payroll system. Adjusted salary ranges, reduced job titles, and initiated compression adjustment.

Human Resources Manager 1996-2001

Managed the entire HR function including staffing, benefits/compensation and government reporting. Oversaw two direct and five indirect reports as well as personnel decisions for 500 hourly and 500 salaried employees. Traveled to 30 locations on a regularly scheduled basis. Converted benefits administration in its entirety to an outside vendor. Eliminated pension plan and established company-wide 401(k). Developed sales incentive and management bonus plans. Assessed the current labor contracts, determined the areas of concern and negotiated five separate labor agreements. Researched marketplace, created sales compensation models. Conducted vendor software analysis then directed new software implementation and follow-up analysis that included EEO regulatory compliance.

Updated compensation pay grade ranges to improve employee retention by analyzing market surveys, benchmarking existing positions, making the necessary adjustments and implementing the new structure.

Controller, Human Resources Manager, 1984-1993. Directed Accounting and HR functions for a division with 420 employees. Managed nine direct and two indirect reports. Reduced operating costs by restructuring benefits plans and job responsibilities. Determined requirements for new HR/payroll system, solicited and evaluated vendor bids, awarded contract and implemented Intergral system. Responsible for all facets of labor relations including hearing grievances, attending arbitration hearings and negotiating the collective bargaining agreement.
