Objective

Computer shop in a hands on programming capacity in either a permanent or contractual position.

SUMMARY: Over 20 years experience in software design, development, and implementation. During these years I managed projects in manufacturing, product distribution, inventory control, order processing, accounts receivable, wireless communications, transportation, logistics, and mental health facilities.

I worked with offshore teams at my last contract at Chesapeake Energy, also some at my contract at Averitt Express, and some at my contract at US Xpress.

HARDWARE IBM System 3, Wang, IBM AS/400, iSeries

SOFTWARE: TL2000, some JDEdwards, Hawkeye, SDA, PDM, Excel, Word, Lotus Notes, Visio, OS/400 , Artesia Oil and Gas

LANGUAGES: RPG IV (ILE), Free format RPG, RPGILE Modules, Binding directories, RPG III, RPG II, SQL, CL

Work Experience

4/2009-2/2011 Compu-Tech, Wenatchee, Wa

Permanent employee…The environment here is a very tight, very cooperative team environment. We work with their agricultural packages and the county sheriff’s office. Extensive use of ILE prototypes, procedures, binding directories, and service programs.

Contractor 8/2008-2/2009 Chesapeake Energy, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

I worked with offshore teams on several occasions.

I worked on a team to merge a new division into the Oklahoma division. This contract was only to help with the merge. I added division filters to many programs to enable them to break out the new division separately. After I checked the coding for accuracy, I worked with the business analysts to help them through any testing data issues they may have encountered.

I also helped out when they had program problems not related to the new division.

I did SQLRPGLE programs, RPGILE binding modules, RPG IV programs, and some RPG III programs.

I worked mainly with 2 other programmers and 4 business analysts.

Contractor

11/2001-7/2008 Averitt Express, a billion dollar trucking company.

I worked with offshore teams on several occasions here.

I developed brand new applications from scratch and worked in their existing packages.

I worked in their operations software. Initially they had me making changes to their existing packages. I converted any RPG programs to RPGLE and made any modifications necessary. I worked mostly in the ILE environment, but I also worked in the older RPG III and RPG IV programs. I am well versed in CL and use it when needed. I have used embedded SQL on occasion. This last company forbid it’s use but I did run into about 2 programs that used it anyway.

I modified the Qualcomm system and took advantage of Qualcomm programs to make brand new applications. In this regard I organized all of the new orders for the day, figured out which direction they were heading, and then created routes for the drivers. Almost no human intervention was needed.

I worked directly with the end users at times on projects they requested. We would lay out the requirements, I would do the screens, programs, and menus, and anything else required.

I am a good communicator and I work well with people.

During the last two years I designed and wrote a brand new truckload system from scratch. It brings together all of their purchased packages and integrates them into one set of screens. They can now access all the dispatching systems from one place. It is many times more user friendly, now, and the information needed to make their dispatching decisions is far more accurate and timely. This project is still evolving.

Contractor

8/2001-10/2001 Circuit City, Richmond, Virginia

This was a six month contract. I worked with a project manager on their marketing

system. They over estimated the length of time required to do the

work. I finished my part in two months and the contract was considered complete.

Contractor

8/1999 – 8/2001 U.S. Xpress, Chattanooga, Tennessee

I worked with offshore teams here on many occasions.

A major long haul trucking company. Writing code exclusively in RPGILE and quite fluent in it. They have a very sophisticated AS400. Any new programs I wrote were in RPGILE. I initially worked on getting them Y2K compliant. Afterwards I stayed on another year working on various projects, most of them dealing with the operations part of the business. Accomplishments: Designing an information screen about the drivers, which would show their driver manager all the important information about the driver. This included the status of a new training program for the drivers designed to be more concerned with them on a personal basis. The goal of this information is to cut down on driver turnover. Another project involved getting time off requests directly from the driver’s truck using QualComm’s satellite message sending system.

Consultant

6/1998 - 7/1999 Golden Gallon, Chattanooga, Tennessee

This is a convenient store organization. The programs were written in RPGIV. The AS400 is their main computer system. It had not been maintained well, so I improved and streamlined some of the processes when I wasn't putting out fires because of unfortunate program designs.Accomplishments: I redesigned, rewrote and significantly improved the milk ordering process, which stocks the stores with all their dairy products and fruit drinks. It saves them about an hour a day in processing time, increased their inventory turns and cut their out-of-stock situations significantly and cut the loss of milk due to spoilage resulting in increased profits. Industry standard for lost milk in stores is two percent; my program reduced Golden Gallon’s loss to less than one percent.
