EXPERIENCE

Producer/ Director June 2008 - Present

PELLET PRODUCTIONS

Produced and Directed segments for Advanced Technological Education Television series and for clients including the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, Wilmer Hale LLP and Goodwin Procter LLP. Developed budgets and worked with clients on new projects from initial conception to final delivery.

● Pitched and secured contracts for multiple video projects with combined budgets in excess of $150,000 for law firms Wilmer Hale LLP and Goodwin Procter LLP; leveraged years of documentary experience to create persuasive narrative videos that preserve goals of communicating firm identity while repackaging messages for today’s current, media-savvy viewer.

● Networked with leading advertising agency executives to identify challenging client relationships and projects that the agency could not address in-house; secured contracts for Pellet Productions to provide these demanding clients with less commercial high-end products that meet the needs of both agency and clients.

● Independently pitched, developed, produced and directed video for Wilmer Hale LLP’s “Discovery Solutions,” an emergent data analysis project for generating revenue; conducted and applied staff interviews to efficiently understand and narrate complex ideas; worked with a team of animation and technical post production professionals to ensure timely project completion.

Production & Business Manager June 2010 - December 2011

WGBH TV NOVA Science Unit

Developed, prepared and revised production budgets of up to three million dollars. Monitored and tracked project expenses for multiple U.S.-based and international documentary productions. Prepared and presented departmental budget reports and estimates to complete. Drafted, executed and paid animation, composer and talent contracts. Coordinated review and payment of invoices and requests for payment for entire NOVA Science Unit department and outside production vendors.

● Collaborated with WGBH Legal and Accounting Departments to substantially reduce staff time and money spent processing contracts and invoices: identified and developed common contract templates and invoices used in production; created more effective versions which could be efficiently modified based on project needs.

● Significantly reduced NOVA’s budgetary costs by leveraging communication skills and extensive production knowledge to successfully identify non-essential costs and negotiate reductions in animator, composer and production invoices and contracts; preserved existing talent relationships and established new relationships while meeting the cost-cutting financial goals of the station at large.

● Analyzed budgets and production plans from international production partners and identified inefficiencies; communicated needs to reduce production costs or estimates, and brainstormed fixes resulting in noteworthy savings that enabled NOVA Science Unit and WGBH to allocate more resources to additional television programming.

Series Associate Producer / Post Production Director July 2008 – April 2010

WGBH TV NOVA Science Unit/Vulcan Productions

Coordinated all production and post-production elements for 6-hour series “This Emotional Life,” including technical production aspects, rights and releases, original and stock footage database management, record maintenance, technical continuity, data organization, and file naming structure. Directed the packaging and delivery of the series to PBS for initial U.S. broadcast and to PBS Distribution for international sale.

● Modernized and thereby increased accessibility and transparency of production practice for “This Emotional Life” by initiating use of Basecamp project management software. Leveraged Basecamp software to centralize information and data: multiple off-site production teams could collect and share research information, contact details and production plans; simultaneously, Seattle-based series executive producers could monitor progress and maintain effective editorial and financial oversight of teams based in Boston, MA and New York City, NY.

● Negotiated contract with off-site post production facility to ensure high-quality, cost-contained results and oversaw all post-production work performed on “This Emotional Life”: managed the hiring of 60-plus production staff members by executing extensive technical and creative reviews of previous work; managed off-site talent and staff to ensure PBS broadcast deadline compliance for series saving thousands of dollars in technical fees and penalties.
