Profile

I’m a full time student at Elizabethtown Community & Technical College. I’m a sophomore studying Network Administration. I am very passionate about music. I was in band all four years of High School where I played a few different instruments, mainly French Horn. After High School I was a Music Ed Major my first year of College at WKU. I just came to realize that teaching was not for me, so I switched to Networking, which is also something that I am very interested in. Technology is something that was more logical for me to pursue as there is a greater need for work in this field and I could work with computers for the rest of my life and not be bored, considering the rapid growth year after year in many different forms of technology. I am still very involved in Music though. For the past two summers I have been a member of two different Drum & Bugle Corps; The Blue Stars in 2010, from LaCrosse, WI, and Carolina Crown in 2011, from Fort Mill, SC. As a member of both of these prestigious groups, I played an instrument called the mellophone (Marching Band equivalent of the French Horn). We started our summer tour in mid May. We would move close to where the Corps was based for 4-5 weeks to train, learn, and perfect a 12 minute “marching band” production. We then would start a 12 week tour where we would perform our show for hundreds of thousands of fans in more than 30 different states across the US, and in most cases, pro football stadiums. So for about 4 months or so my day would consist of getting up around 7 AM, rehearsal for about 12 hours, with three 30-60 min meal breaks in between, and then bed around 12 AM. On show days, the rehearsal time was about 6 hours a day to make time to travel to the stadium and get ready to perform. Most nights we slept on the tour busses as we were traveling to our next destination. Some nights when we weren’t traveling, we got to sleep in our sleeping bags on a high school gym floor.

Now that I’m not so engulfed in music, I want to start getting more involved with my current studies and hopefully find work in a technology oriented field.
